A Divided World

Scripture

Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.

~Luke 12:51, NIV

Quote

Jesus did not come into the world to bring division.

~John Hagee

The quote above is one good reason you don’t need to pay a lot of attention to John Hagee; what he said contradicts what Jesus said about Himself and his ministry here on earth. Matter of fact I saw a list of characteristic of a false Christ. He will allow everyone into heaven. He preaches peace and love, never division or judgment. He does not require obedience, holiness or repentance. He never calls anyone evil or wicked and he encourages you to do your own thing. If this is the Jesus you are hearing from the pulpit, it is the wrong Jesus. Jesus said, “Don’t think that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came to bring trouble, not peace. I came to turn sons against their fathers, daughters against their mothers, and daughters-in-law against their mothers-in-law. Your worst enemies will be in your own family.” It is true that Jesus will return to earth some day as the Prince of Peace but at present, Jesus divides the world. This is made clear in John chapter 10. In verse 19, the scripture states: the people took sides because of what Jesus had said; many of them said, “He has a demon, He is crazy! Why listen to Him?” But others said, “How could anyone with a demon in him say these things. No demon possessed person could give sight to the blind.” The people were divided; one group wanted to kill Jesus and the other wanted to make Him their King.

Two millenniums later and nothing has changed: the world is divided over Jesus; millions love Him, billions hate Him. Many, including me, believe that Jesus is the Son of God but the great majority believe that he was just a man [John 10:33]. Many refer to our present division in America as a “Cultural Conflict or War,” but I’m telling you that it is a “Spiritual War.” Hate is of the devil and so are lies. What we see coming against Donald Trump is not love and truth; it is hate and lies and it all has the same source. It is not rocket science: you can’t hate Donald Trump and love Jesus. You can’t hate Obama and love Jesus. You can’t hate any man and love Jesus. You and I lack the power to heal this division and we dare not compromise the truth in the hope that it will make us one with those who hate Jesus.

It is not Jesus alone that they hate: They hate the bible, God’s holy word; they hate authority, especially moral authority. They hate the constitution and the word Republic. They loathe patriotism and nationalism. They hate everything that America stands for, especially freedom of Religion, Speech and the right to bear arms. I’m telling you folks: these people are un-American. But, we don’t fight fire with fire in this case. We don’t respond to hate with more hate. As long as we speak the truth, we will be labeled ‘haters’ but in our hearts, we know this is not so. We can’t overcome darkness with more darkness: we must be soldiers of light.

Strange thing for me this week: I’ve done less in VBS than ever, almost nothing and yet I am tired. I was so tired last night that I could not do the extra and I have some things I want you to pray about:

Little Lilly Graham who has been a St. June all year [2019] got a bad report on Wednesday. Basically, she has to start over–her treatment did not work. She was so in hopes of coming home. Please pray for Lilly and her family: they are heart broken.

Wednesday night at church: the cancer thing kept coming up and we have a friend whose cancer came back and the doctors were not encouraging. This precious woman has children. I found out last Saturday and I have been heart sick since. This young lady is an outstanding person. I hate cancer and several of our friends are battling it as we speak. Pray for those in this battle.

I know you would like to hear some good news: Roger Burcham is doing great. His fluid has dropped to the point that he needs less oxygen and he can drink more liquids. He gets that extra cup of coffee. He walked all over his house yesterday: way to go Roger.

I pray for President Trump every day and now I have added Franklin Graham to my list. Go to Psalm 140 and use it as a guide: write a prayer for Franklin or Trump. It will not be that hard, just follow the guide.
