A Needed Help

Scripture

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.

~Psalm 46:1-3, NASB

When you have a steady, intimate relationship to Christ, you always have hope regardless to the situation.

I am teaching the Book of Psalms in the winter bible study at my home church in Limestone County this week. I spent my first 22 years in this community and I have a lot of old friends there as well as relatives. I have four sisters and one brother who are still here on this pilgrims journey. It has gotten increasingly hard for me to go back to my old community due to all the promotions. So many of my old friends have proceeded me and every year, when I do the study, there are more and more of my friends missing. Life becomes a challenge when you start losing your family and friends. One of the greatest challenges is the changing times. Things are not like there were fifty years ago. June and I tried to watch a TV show without vid-angel Monday night and we were shocked at the language. Fifty years ago, they did make a few decent movies but those days are gone. I don’t think Hollywood is capable of producing anything fit to watch. So one of the upsetting things for senior adults is the changes and sometimes that even means a change is residence. Some have been moved from their home of fifty plus years to an assisted living or nursing home. This has to be a hard adjustment.

I love Psalm 46 because it talks about these disturbing changes and some of them are catastrophic. I am comforted by the fact that God never changes. There is a sweet lady in my home community who is 94 years old and still does Sunday dinner. She still drives and does her own grocery shopping. She lost a daughter to cancer a few months back and I visited her the other day. I love to see this woman because she never seems to change. I guess she makes me feel young. Our Savior never changes. He is the same today, yesterday and forever. In a world that is changing so rapidly, I cling to my Savior who does not change. He is my refuge; I go to Him daily. He is my joy, peace, and hope. I can’t imagine life without Him. In this changing world; cling to the one thing that does not change: a personal relationship to Jesus Christ.

We usually have some bad weather during the Bible study week but it is usually snow or sleet: last night the tornado alarms went off right in the middle of our second session and we had to dismiss. I saw some terrific lightening driving home but all we encountered {PTL} was rain.

After two days off, the kids are going back to school which means our grands are unhappy. I am about to go cook breakfast for them. Hope you have a good day and thanks for reading the blog.
