Scripture
Hear my voice O God…protect my life from fear of the enemy. Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the mob of evildoers.
~Psalm 64:12, Cloverdale

There is but one good; that is God. Everything else is good when it looks to Him, and bad when it turns away from Him.
~C.S. Lewis
I read a Psalm each day and a couple of commentaries on that Psalm. One of my favorite commentaries is the old Broadman Laymen’s commentary by Alton H. McEachern. Most likely this Psalm is by David in reference to his slanderous enemies. They think their plots are such well-kept secrets that no one knows or will ever know what they have done. They are fully convinced that they can get away with evil. Although their plans are hidden from men, God knows the evil they are scheming and one day He will reveal it to the world. Jesus said in Luke 12:2, The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear! David said, The enemy is secretive and scheming; they wet their tongues like swords and aim their slanderous lies like arrows. The shoot from ambush, from the dark shadows so that know one will know their involvement. They are fully convinced that their identity will never be known. The have been cunning and careful so that they are fully confident that their evil will go undetected. There is no question that they succeed in their evil for a time but eventually, they will be found out. I am an impatient human, and I want God to call them out today, but that is not His way. The last verse of the Psalm gives us the outcome, “The godly will rejoice in the Lord and find shelter in Him. And those who do what is right will praise Him.”
I read it some thirty or forty years ago: there was an article in the READERS DIGEST about Joseph Kennedy, a very evil human being. As the Priest was administering the last rites and got to the LORD’s prayer and the phrase “Deliver us from evil,” Joseph Kennedy breathed his last. I tried to find it on the internet but ran out of time. The world is a dangerous place because of evil people. Right now the State Department recommend that Americans not travel to the following countries:
- Burma (Myanmar)
- Iran
- Yemen
- Afghanistan
- Iraq
- Russia
- South Sudan
- Somalia
I don’t think this is an extensive list because Nigeria and Chad should be on the list as well as North Korea. Protection from evil is a blessed thing because evil is highly destructive. I am sick of evil from within and without. I am sick of the lying media and all the slander. They are after Trump for a reason: he is a threat to them. They are not after anyone else because no one else is a threat. LORD please deliver us from evil. I hope you will join me in this prayer.

We are registered for the conference at Hillsdale and have also made our travel arrangements. I am excited. We leave here on September 28 and get home October 3. We will miss a Sunday and a Wednesday night. The drought continues to affect us; our rose bush outside the office is dead and I am fighting to keep another alive along with one azalea. Between the ground hogs and the drought, the garden is gone. We are getting a few tomatoes and we have four or five pepper plants that have survived. Everything else died or was eaten by the ground hogs.
I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
