Dominion

Scripture

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

~Genesis 1:26, KJV

Our sin is a tiny spark in God’s ocean of grace.

~Thomas Watson

Psalm eight begins…O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth. The Hebrew word translated ‘majestic’ in the NASB is translated ‘excellent’ in the KJV. The word is‘adîr and it is translated noble seven times in the KJV and excellent only four. It can be translated glorious, majestic or great. There is no problem because God is all of the above: He is excellent, noble, glorious, great and majestic. David was very good at beginning his prayers with this kind of high praise for Yahweh. How do our prayers begin? Well, we should follow David’s example and begin them with praise and adoration for God, but that is not our natural tendency. Almost always, I am tempted to begin with confession of sin.

As Thomas Watson points out, our tendency is to make more of our sin than we do God’s grace and it is easy to do. Why did David begin Psalm 8 with the excellence and majesty of God? Why does he not mention the fall of man? Watchman Nee says, “Had we written the Psalm, we would have at least mentioned the fall of man and our sins.” Nee says that David understood the fact that God is immutable and His purposes never change. In the mind and purpose of God, He had already reversed the curse on Adam and his sin. Adam lost dominion. Christ restored it! Think about it: what did Jesus not have dominion over? He had power over demons, sickness, and even the natural elements like the wind. When I think of Jesus and His dominion, I join David in exclaiming, O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth.” To dwell on my sin is to pine, but to think of Christ excellence is divine. {Shout!}

Weather forecasters, what do they do? They get our hopes us and then dash them. They have taken all the rain out of the forecast. Just a few days ago they had rain from tomorrow through Monday, now they have nothing. June told me that some schools was moving football to tonight due to rain. I laughed, they are not smart to move a game this time of year. If we get enough rain to stop a FB praise Jesus for it. I would be thrilled if it rained out every game in North Alabama, but if I were you, I would not worry that this will happen. I am predicting that rain will not be a problem and hoping that I am wrong.

LORD willing, June and I are going to ride up Amish country today. She is out of lye soap.

Courtney is about the same. She had a pretty good day yesterday.

Thank you for reading the blog. Have a great day!
