Don’t Tell Me What To Do

Scripture

God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

Genesis 3:5, NLT

Every time we disobey God we are exhibiting pride and the attitude that we know more than God.

~Charles Stanley {Every Day In His Presence}

As a small child, I idolized my father but as I grew older and became what we call a teenager, I became very condescending and I was convinced beyond doubt that I knew more than my father. My Daddy got to the ninth grade but when my grand daddy was killed in an accident, Daddy quit school. He could read but he didn’t like to read and his spelling was horrible. I went to school for 19 straight years including three or for summers and I thought I knew more than my daddy. It was hard for me to obey anything he said because I felt confident that I knew more than he did. To quote my son-in-law, “Long story short–I was wrong and my daddy was right.” I sit here now, almost 30 years after his passing and marvel at the predictions he made. He did not have a higher education but he learned from life and I could have learned from him had I not been so full of pride. What makes teenagers rebel? Simply stated: “They think they know more than their parents.”

The devil got two words right in his conversation with Eve…GOD KNOWS. David said, “God you know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it.” Jesus disciples said in John 16“At last you are speaking plainly and not figuratively. Now we understand that You know everything.” Let me put it this way, Jesus has infinite knowledge and we have infinite ignorance. Do you know everything? He does, so why not trust Him. With this in mind, isn’t it foolish to rebel! The devil told Eve that if she rebelled, she would become a rival with God, she would be like Him, but that was a lie. She became more like the devil, not more like God. There is no possible way that you and I can know more than God. We do not have to understand His commands to obey; we simply have to trust His infinite wisdom.

Rebellion frighten Martin Luther and it frighten me. The one thing I do not want to do is rebel against the Father. To rebel is a dangerous thing because it puts us on a slippery slope going away from God, and at the bottom of the slope is a pit of destruction. Eve’s rebellion introduced sin and when sin came, it brought sorrow, misery, guilt, shame, fear, and death. An old hymn comes to mind…“‘Not My will, but Thine be done,’ cried the Father’s own Son, As He knelt ‘neath the old olive trees.” My prayer is found in Psalm 51:10, Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey You.”

I know a lot of folks don’t like rain but we needed this rain. To this point, the showers we have had in 2022 have been less than an inch and the water table has gotten low. A day after these rains, we were dry again but the rain yesterday has changed that: it is wet at 1120 Iron Man and the ground is getting soft. Thank God for the rain.

While we are thanking HIM, we thank Him for the Incarnation and CHRISTMAS. Christmas is a celebration of the incarnation. Without Christmas, December would be just another cold, dark winter month. Christmas injected life into winter and makes December a month to look forward to and one that passes very fast.

Continue to pray for our cancer warriors, missionaries, and those in the military. Pray for God to revive your pastor, your church and America. Yes, we need a little heaven, right this very minute.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
