Eighty-Five Year Old Man Arrested for Praying

Scripture

“O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always…keep Your promises…but we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against You and scorned Your commands and regulations.”

~Daniel 9:4-5, NLT

Quote

Prayer is spiritual breathing and prayer was as vital to Daniel as oxygen. He had rather die than not to pray.

~Dennis Fisher

Adam Smith-Connor, a physiotherapist and army veteran from Southampton was arrested and fined for praying silently outside an abortion clinic in Bournemouth, England. Although his arrest made the news here in the states, there have been several people arrested in the UK for praying near an abortion clinic. The officers warned him he was in an area under a Public Spaces Protection Order which establishes a “safe zone” around abortion clinics and prohibits “engaging in any act of approval/disapproval” including praying. The man was not praying aloud: he was praying silently silently.

The officers ask him what he was praying for, as if that were their business and he said I am praying for my son. He had paid for an abortion at such a clinic twenty-two years prior. It was a son, who he later named Jacob.  I guess his prayer was more of an act of repentance and grief than anything else, but needless to say, the authorities did not care. He was arrested and fined.

Never happen in these United States, right? I am not so sure about that: what’s happening is Western Europe is coming this way. It is similar to the California/Alabama thing. It takes it about 20-30 years to get here but what happens there usually comes our way. It is not the first time that a man has been arrested for praying. Daniel was arrested at age 85. He violated an executive order and prayed against the King’s wishes. Actually it was not the King who set the trap for Daniel, it was some jealous peers. Daniel choose prayer over life. Do you know how many people had survived the lions den? Zero! Your life span in the den was under a minute. Are you impressed with Daniel’s courage, faith and devotion? I am. Lord, help us to be faithful in prayer.

Yesterday was a marathon and I am praying for today to be quiet and peaceful. I so appreciate all that helped with Sam’s COLS and feeding the family. A special thanks to Hannah Clark. Hannah did a super job in the sound room. Every mic was hot at the right time and every track played at the right time. We want to thank Terri and Dana for organizing the meal and the ladies for fixing the dishes. Personally, I want to thank Kip for the pecan pies and Carol for the corn salad. I was wore out when I got home last night.

I am a little late this morning: I entertained Jackson before coming to the office. He cleaned off Big Mama’s kitchen for her. If you need your house rearranged, call Jackson, he can take care of it.

Psalm of The Day

The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth.

~Psalm 145:18, NLT

James Russell….

This Present Crisis

Careless seems the great Avenger; history’s pages but record
One death-grapple in the darkness ‘twixt old systems and the Word;
Truth forever on the scaffold, Wrong forever on the throne,–
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.

James Russel Lowell
