Water is essential: There is no life without water.

~Ya’akov

We are so blessed with good water that we seldom give it a thought but it is not that way in the Middle East; water there is a precious commodity and they know it is essential to like. There was a water drawing ceremony that took place during the FEAST OF TABERNACLES. The FEAST lasted an entire week and everyday the priest observed the water drawing ceremony. The priest would lead a procession to the Pool of Siloam; there he would draw water with a golden picture and carry it back to the Temple. There he would pour the water on the altar while another priest read Isaiah 12…With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. In Hebrew, the word salvation is Yeshua {Messiah, Jesus}. On the last day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried aloud, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.”

Water is essential to life: both bio and Zoe; physical and spiritual. Just as one cannot live physically without water; neither can one live spiritually without water. Judaism could not give the Jews the Living Water they needed. Actually, their ritual, the water ceremony, was a good thing but it was a shadow of the real. Jesus is the LIVING WATER. The problem was and is today, the Jews clung to their religion and rejected their Savior. Remember Jesus conversation with the woman at the well…“If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” “But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” Jesus water was superior to Jacobs {Judaism} but the Jews as a whole refused go drink.
