Look At The Birds

Scripture

Look at the birds of the air; they do no sow and reap and store in barns, yet Your heavenly Father feeds them.

~Matthew 6:6, NEB

“Imagine yourself being happy, unburdened, and filled with joy. That is actually how God wants you to be.”

Are you worried or anxious about tomorrow? What has you feeling anxious? A corrupt government that conspired to thwart the will of the American people by fraud at the voting place, the corona virus, the stock markets downward trend due to the election, the upcoming holidays, the traffic, or perhaps domestic issues. One thing is certain: “We all have problems.” I will not lie, it is easy to focus on the problems. Jesus cure for anxiety is to do some serious bird watching. Jesus said, “If you are anxious, look at the birds.” June has a bird feeder right outside the kitchen window; she enjoys watching the birds. Let me asks you a question: “Have you ever seen a bird with a worried look on it’s face?” Have you ever seen a bird do anything that would indicate anxiety? I think it is safe to say that birds do not worry.

You do know that they have psychiatric treatment for pets these days. As C.S. Lewis states, “It is amazing how human pets become when they are treated like humans.” I bring this up because I heard of a woman who carried her cat to an animal psychiatrist. Evidently, the cat was very anxious and the vet gave it a sedative to calm it down. But I have never heard of a bird, pet or otherwise, going for psychiatric help. Birds do not worry. They don’t farm: they neither sow nor reap and they sure don’t store grain in a barn. The point is: birds don’t worry about anything. If you put bird seed in a feeder, they will find it but you are not going to find among them a worried bird. If you are over anxious, put a bird feeder outside your window and watch the birds. Learn from them: they trust God to take care of them and He does.
