Scripture
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart,
my portion forever.
~Psalm 73:26, CSB
Quote
At death the ungodly lose all their wealth, but the Godly inherent the wealth they have never had.
~Ya’akov
Psalm 73 was written by Asaph who was one of the worship leaders. He became very discouraged over the prosperity of the wicked. It seemed to him that the wicked were carefree; they didn’t have the problems that the Godly suffered. They faired sumptuously every day and were proud of it. They wore pride like a necklace. They lived from one social event to another and although they had a low view of God, people kissed up to them simply because they were rich. They had the have the Midas touch: everything they touched turned to gold, while Asaph and many like him struggled to make ends meet.
The problem of evil and the prosperity of the wicked is an age old dilemma. Job was a sage, and he could not figure it out and neither has anyone else. The answer is bound up in the mystery of God. God has a reason for allowing it, but He has never saw fit to reveal the reason to us. It is human nature to seek answers to these mysteries but obviously these answers are beyond human reason and impossible for us to understand.
The prosperous wicked were really getting Asaph down. He felt like he was slipping and about to fall, but then he had a worship experience. He doesn’t tell us what it was only that he was in worship with God’s people in the worship center. Whatever it was that happen; it made him realized that his relationship with God was far greater than riches; that being in the presence of God was greater than being prosperous. Then he makes his confession, My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.
The prosperity of the wicked in temporal; they will lose it all at death. They will not take one thing into the next world other than their miserable selves. We have Jesus awaiting us in heaven and we have the blessed Holy Spirit with us on earth. We will make some mistakes, and we may even get discouraged like Asaph, but Jesus is our portion [inheritance] forever. Three things will help us out of the sloth of despond: [1] Recognize the sovereignty of God, [2] the fate of the wicked, and [3] the future of believers. We have a future; they don’t.

I think we are in for another miserably hot day. There is rain in the weekend forecast, but you know what that means. We are extremely dry. Grass is dead or looks dead and shrubs are dying.
Have a good day, thanks for reading the blog.
Grace Point we are in Proverbs 3 tonight at 6:30.
