Pleasing The Father

Scripture

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Our Heavenly Father honors faith, rewards humility and loves obedience.

Most of us have a desire to please the Father but the principle of sin hinders us. As Paul confessed in Romans 7, “The desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it. For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do.”  In other words, we don’t get up in the morning and say to ourselves, “What could I do today to displease my heavenly Father.” To the contrary, we begin the day praying that we will please Him. In our mind we establish a game plan for the day and it does not include displeasing the Father, and yet before the day is done, we have done something displeasing to Him and vexing to us. It can leave us in a miserable state.

One of the problems is our pride which is so hard for us to spot within ourselves. Of course, God sees it immediately and others usually see it in us before we recognize it in ourselves, but pride can trip us up. Jesus greatest passion was to please the Father and He did: twice in the NT a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Jesus told His disciples, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.” {John 4:34} Pleasing the Father was the highest priority in Jesus’ life.

I am not Jesus, and I have never heard the voice, but I want to hear it. My only hope of hearing that voice is to become one with Jesus, to abide in Him, to take sanctuary in His grace and atoning work. In Him it is possible to please the Father. Apart from Him, there is no hope.

Headed to Rome this morning. Going to visit my only surviving aunt in Rome, Georgia. Going to be riding with the sister that is an over the top Auburn fan. I told her she had to take the hideous tiger tail out of the trunk if I was to ride with her. I may be driving.

We need some rain. I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
