Puny Man!

Scripture

Puny man! Frail as his breath! Don’t ever put your trust in him!

~Isaiah 2:22, TLB

Quote

Frail children of dust and feeble as frail, in THEE we do trust, nor find YOU to fail.

~Robert Grant

The original manuscripts did not have the bible divided into verses; we added the verse numbers later. If you count the verses Psalm 118:9 will be the middle verse of the bible and it is an interesting verse indeed… It is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in menIt is better to take refuge in Him than in the mightiest king {politician}! David said in Psalm 40, Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols. He also said in Psalm 146:3, Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. Then there is my favorite found in Philippians 3, For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by His Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh. I also like Jeremiah 17:5, “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.” No human is worthy of our trust in the ultimate sense. Obviously some are more trustworthy than others but we are never to put the faith that belongs to Christ into another person.

Who do you trust to take care of your sins? He is the one that we are to trust for all our needs, anything less is idolatry. Anytime and every time we put our trust in humans, we are going to be disappointed. Billy Graham became a personal friend to Richard Nixon and their friendship was public. When the tapes of Nixon conversations were made public, they were filled with profanity. It was embarrassing to Nixon, his family, his friends and his supporters. I will say this: the same group that is out to get Trump is the group that destroyed Nixon. Lyndon Johnson was just as profane as Nixon but they were not out to get Johnson. The Nixon scandal hurt Billy Graham and he distanced himself from politics all together. All I am saying is that people will let you down. People in high places will let you down. Preachers wearing the cloth and standing behind the sacred desk will let you down. Never put your confidence in mankind. Every preacher is flawed, there are no exceptions. Every politician is flawed and there is no exception. I admire President Trump and I pray for he and his family every day but he is flawed. He has promised to defund Planned Parenthood which may be the most diabolically evil organization in America. We pray for Trump: we put our trust in Jesus.

New word for the day is in·ef·fa·ble. It is found in the hymn O Worship The King…3rd stanza...O measureless might, ineffable love, While angels delight to worship above…it means too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words.

The hardest part of my day is over: I’ve already had my shower and brushed my teeth. LORD willing, Joe David and I are off to see Vellene and Tracy B.

I stayed in my study all morning yesterday. I had a lot that needed done on the farm but I never left the house. I procrastinated: I’m very good at putting things off but I got one project completed that I didn’t intend to do. So I didn’t feel like I had wasted the day entirely. I do love this weather. When you are 17, you have to be in the mood to do those dreaded projects.
