Ready

Scripture

Praise the Lord, you angels of his, you powerful warriors who carry out His decrees and obey His orders.

~Psalm 103:20, NET

There will be no peace in any soul until it is willing to obey the voice of God.

~Dwight L. Moody

We sang a lot of songs in the 50’s and 60’s that we do not sing anymore: one of those old hymns came to mind this morning; it went something like this…

Ready to suffer grief or pain,
Ready to stand the test;
Ready to stay at home and send
Others if He sees best.

Ready to go, ready to stay,
Ready my place to fill;
Ready for service lowly or great,
Ready to do His will.

As I was reading and meditating on Psalm 103 this morning, verse 20 caught my attention. God has a standing army of mighty angels poised and ready for action. At His command they will go and do His will. David said, “Yahweh has fixed His throne in heaven and His sovereign power rules overall.” There is no disobedience in heaven; all the rebels were displaced long before you or I were born. The one thing the rebellious angels could not do was to obey and the one objective of those who stayed was to obey. These good angels obey and obey promptly.

That put me to thinking, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were ready and poised to obey at God’s slightest command?” I think you will agree, there is too much self-will in the church. Instead of praying and seeking God’s will, we began lining up our ducks to insure that our will is done. Prayer is not even a factor: the thought of checking with God to see what He wants doesn’t enter our mind. We go to talking to each other, trying to sell our ideas and plans when we have not talked with God about His plans. There is too much flesh. Then to fulfill our plan, we turn to Egypt {world} which is exactly what God teaches us not to do.

The argument would be, “We made it happen: we planned the work and then we worked the plan.” Yeah, this is true many times but joy and peace or by products of obedience. We are not to do His work our way. Cain was never a happy man. He lived a miserable life because he couldn’t obey: every thing including worship, had to be his way. Trust and obey, for there is no other way: to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.

I am thankful for a good day. Great attendance and once again, I didn’t expect it. We had 123 at the POINT yesterday morning. That is a very good crowd for us. God is good. I love preaching the Miracles in Mark. No head ache today; I am pumped.

I hope you have a great week and I appreciate you reading the blog.
