Seeking His Face

Scripture

When You said, Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”

~Psalm 27:8, NKJV

Quote

When I think of seeking His face, I am thinking about His face {Person} rather than His hands {asking for something I want or need.}

~Rex Looney

The Hebrew word pānîm can mean the front of, the forefront or the face of a person or thing. It can also means person or presence. I came across the term last week in Psalm 105:4, Seek the LORD, and His strength: seek His face evermore. This prompted me to go to Psalm 27, II Chronicles 7:14 and other passages where “seeking His face” is mentioned. After reading all these verses, I began mediating on them and I asked the LORD specifically to show me what He meant in this phrase “seeking His face.” I shared this thought yesterday with the pastors and gained more insight into this term. What Rex said confirmed what I believe God had revealed to me. I try to follow the model prayer that Jesus taught us. Most of the time I began just like He did, “Father in heaven, hallowed, respected and feared is Your name…. and then I go into praise and adoration, at least that is my intention. However, I have a tendency to go to Jack. If I am not careful, I will have one line of adoration and praise and then start confessing or asking. Sometimes the guilt and shame are so great that I have to begin with a confession but eventually, we must understand that His grace is greater than our sin and we need to focus on His perfection instead of our imperfection.

This is what I believe the LORD revealed to me: seeking His face is staying focused on HIM. It is beholding his beauty, majesty and glory. Since He is invisible to the eye, it is strictly a spiritual exercise and it is not easy to do. This is why I use the Psalms in my prayers everyday. Would you like to know how strong your flesh and its desires are? Then fast for a day or when you pray next, SEEK HIS FACE. Due to the flesh and our vanity, it is not easy to keep our focus on Him and Him alone. If you don’t believe me, try focusing on God and Him alone then next time you pray. Don’t confess anything or ask for anything: keep the focus on Him.

EXTRA

I started a home project last Thursday and PTL I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had to replace a floor in one of our bed rooms. It has robbed me of some of my study time but hopefully we will get it finished this week.

Today will be a sad day as we attend Matt Asherbranner’s COLS. Matt was 31 years old, married with one son. I have known him since he was a kid. A lot of folks have helped me along the way. Too many to list, but one of them is Ronald Asherbranner. He has been good to me and he has been good to DBC. He not only shot the fire works at the BLOCK PARTY for over a decade, he paid for the fireworks and we had some great shows. Of course that is not all he did, he did a lot more. My heart goes out to Ronald and family on this very difficult day. Please lift up the Ronald Asherbranner family today.

God bless you, have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
