Sin’s Consequences

Scripture

But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them.

~Psalm 81:12, NET

Quote

Every sin has a consequence: it may be hardening of the heart or God giving us over to our own devices but there is a consequence for each sin.

~Ya’akov

Psalm 76 begins like this…God has revealed or made Himself known, in Judah; in Israel His reputation is great. The Israelites knew God’s blessings and even his miraculous power but they were also acquainted with His wrath. God reveals Himself when He is angry. Paul talks about this in Romans one, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness. Some people imagine Jesus to be some passive milk toast individual who is very timid and unassertive. A spineless person who is dripping with undiscerning love. This is not the case and thankfully His cleansing of the Temple is proof. Jesus made a whip out of cords and He had a holy fit, driving both men and animals out of the temple. He also overturned the tables where they were exchanging money. God is a God of love but the flip side of His nature is wrath. God loves sinners but He hates sin. He hates sin because He is holy: sin is an offense to Him.

The vast majority in this world are living in rebellion against God. They are not living to please Him, they live to please themselves. They boast about their sin and rebellion and are fully convinced, there are no consequences to their rebellion. They are being judged presently and don’t know it. God has given them over to their stubborn heart and ways. The greatest of all judgments is for God to look at us and say, “Have your own way.”

Meditate for a moment on Romans one…For although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or give him thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.24 Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves.25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.26 For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones, 27 and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in their passions for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done. 29 They are filled with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, contrivers of all sorts of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 senseless, covenant-breakers, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they fully know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but also approve of those who practice them.

A little rain falling this morning. I need a little but not a lot. I sure have enjoyed the beautiful weather. This week, like this year, is passing swiftly. I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.

What stupid thing will come out of Washington D.C. today? Pray for God to restore Trump: he is the rightful president. Remember, God majors in the impossible. You don’t pray about things that are possible, you do them. You go to HIM for the impossible.
