Solomon’s Folly

Scripture

As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

~I Kings 11:4, NIV

Arrogance is ever accompanied by folly.

~Plato

When someone says Solomon, you think wisdom. We all do because we have been conditioned to think this way. When we were children, all the SS lesson on Solomon were about his wisdom, never his folly. Solomon spent the first half of his reign building and when he had finished building everything that he wanted to build [including the Temple and his palace] the LORD told him, Everything you built belongs to me and I will bless the Temple if you are faithful to Me but if you start worshiping other gods there will be consequences.” What are those consequences? They are found in I Kings chapter nine.

The first consequence is LOSS OF THE LAND {I will no longer let My people live in the land I gave them}. The second was LOSS OF STATEHOOD. The third is LOSS OF RESPECT {People everywhere will think you are a joke}. The fourth was the LOSS OF THE TEMPLE {This temple will become a pile of rocks. People will walk by and say, “Why did the LORD LORD allow such terrible things to happen to His people and His temple?” Then someone will answer: “It was because they rejected the LORD God and starting worshiping other gods.”

Of course, you know the history as well as I: Solomon ignored God’s warnings and brought in and even build temples for the detestable gods of the Moabites, Ammonites and Canaanites. He did exactly what the LORD warned him not to do. What I want you to note is that GOD DID EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO. Ignore the warning of scripture and go ahead and worship the gods with the little g and see if God doesn’t turn them into a pile of rubbish. It will happen as sure as my name is Jack Bailey. I don’t have a single doubt. The Lord warned Solomon and Israel, You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.”Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods.

Because the nation did not collapse under Solomon’s watch, he is seldom associated with the demise of the nation but it all started with his careless, reckless and foolish behavior.

Franklin Graham, America’s pastor has declared June 2 as National Day of Prayer for President Trump and Family. Graham said, “President Trump’s enemies continue to try everything to destroy him, his family, and the presidency. In the history of our country, no president has been attacked as he has. I believe the only hope for him, and this nation, is God.” I have been thinking this for weeks. It is well documented in my prayer journal. Listen to me folks, they did the same thing to President Nixon. These people are evil and thus relentless, they do not give up. So far everything they have attempted has failed but don’t underestimate their resolve. They have the forum in the liberal news media and they will not let up. I pray for God to confound, confuse, and embarrass them. May they get caught in the trap they are sitting for Trump.

We had our first annual Memorial Day weekend picnic and had a great crowd {94}. That is more than we had Sunday morning. We had BBQ chicken and ribs and plenty of them. Lara and Tyler won the bean bag tournament. A huge thanks to Charles Sanders, Mike and Mickey Childers for helping us cook. I want to thank Kristy for the diet Dr. Pepper. Great turn out and a lot of fun. Our next big picnic is June 26 when we will have TNT burgers and dogs. It is on a Wednesday night commencing our VBS.

I was too tired to proof anything: hope there are not so many mistakes that you can get the message.
