The Helper

Scripture

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.

~John 14:16, NKJV

Live today with the awareness that you are not alone. God Himself dwells with you in the Spirit.

~Jonathan Cahn

If you go back to Genesis 24 you will find the story of Abraham sending Eliezer, he most trusted servant, back to Mesopotamia to get Isaac a wife. If you remember the story, Eliezer had some reservations not so much about the trip but finding the right fit for Isaac. So Eliezer prayed as soon as he got to Haran, “LORD God of my master Abraham, please give me success today. If I ask one of these girls coming to the well to give me a drink and she says, ‘Yes, I will will water your camels also,’ I will know that she is the one.” Before he could say amen, Rebekah came up and gave him a drink and then started watering his camels. Eliezer knew that she was the one and from this point of engagement, he never leaves Rebekah’s side. He faithfully stays with her until he gets her safely to her husband. Wow, what a beautiful picture of the Holy Spirit’s ministry to the Church!

I would never have thought of this were it not for Jonathan Cahn’s book of mysteries but here goes: buckle your seat belt and hang on. The SPIRIT is the first agent in the work of salvation: He convicts us of sin and engages us to Jesus. Upon this engagement with Jesus the Groom, His mission is to the bride {church, believer}. Just as Eliezer {Hebrew for ‘helper’} came bearing gifts to Rebekah’s father, so the Holy Spirit has gifted us but the thing that excites me most is that He stays with us until He get us to the Groom. He will never leave us until He brings us safely into the presence of Christ our beloved Groom. If that doesn’t ring your bell; your clapper is broken. I shared this with the preachers last Monday and they just sat there: no emotion, no amens, no hallelujah’s except for me: I got happy just thinking about it.

Lara came home from the hospital. Appreciate your prayers. She still has not passed the stone and basically, they gave her no meds that she can use so we are praying for the best. She has right at 8 weeks to go before John Titon is scheduled to arrive or to emerge. Meanwhile Jackson is eating like a pig and sucking his thumb in between meals. The three grand parents are there every day and the grand dad is there every morning and every night. Hannah had to go over to enforce Big Mama rule: put him in the bed and stop holding him 24/7. Hannah has to guard the bassinet to keep them for getting him up and grand dad does go by the rule. They warmed him last night that Big Mama would get him. We volunteered to keep Jackson today while Lexi goes to the doctor and she said NO! Imagine that! Jackson has a helicopter mom and dad. He will end up as spoiled as Holly’s bunch.

January is almost gone but I have a feeling that February will not be much better. The cold is not that bad when the wind isn’t blowing but the wind and cold together are brutal. Our biggest concern here at 1120 is not the electric bill which will be high, but the water freezing. Our water bill will probably be high. It is middle of the morning before it gets above freezing.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.

Notes and Quotes from cleaning my office

Found an old DIGEST but it didn’t have a date. I am guessing it was in the 90’s and probably late 90’s. We gave {DBC} $68, 714.62 to missions that year. Some of those on the birthday calendar were: Sarah Reeder, Mary Sue Thompson, Ed Livingstone, and Mary Asherbranner. Found another one dated February 2001: average attendance in Sunday school was 201, worship was 245 and PM worship 110. Offering for the month was $27,754.93.

The TOP TEN for that month was BAPTIST EXERCISES

  2. Ducking responsibility
  3. Jumping to conclusions
  4. Racing for the back row
  5. Passing judgment
  6. Flying off the handle
