The Joy Of Servanthood

Scripture

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything… got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet.

~John 13:3-5, NLT

When you serve others in Jesus name; you are pleasing the only One who counts.

Incredible is one of my favorite adjectives and what you are about to read is incredible. The Father had given Jesus all authority. This means that Jesus could do anything He wanted to do. If I had all authority today, I would impeach all the democrats and have Richard Shelby tried to treason but the good news for the dems and the traitors is–I don’t have any authority. So Jesus was presented with an infinite number of choices and yet He choose to gird Himself, get on His divine knees and serve the likes of us. Rightfully, Jesus was a king or the King, but He made a conscious choice to serve instead. Is this not mind-boggling!

Let me share something else that should encourage you. We do not have to be highly gifted to serve. Praise the LORD, anyone with a willing and humble heart can serve. The disciples should have washed Jesus’ feet but their pride kept them in their seats and they missed a blessing of a life time. I didn’t make 30 on my ACT and I never finished at the top of any class. To my knowledge, I have never been the best at anything: there has always been someone who graded higher and in most cases, much higher but that doesn’t deter me in the least. The lower our rank, the easier it is to serve and the joy of the Christian life is in service. I have no desire to be a big-wig, to live in a gated community or to make the news or tabloids. The lower we stay to the ground, the less likely we are to take a bullet from the enemy. You get that head too high and you are liable to take one between the eyes.

When you lovingly serve others in Jesus name, you are pleasing the only One who counts.

These boxes keep popping up on my computer and I don’t know how to remove them. I need to get Josie to give me another lesson. When you get my age, even January goes by quickly. It is only 6 weeks to Daylights Savings time. Things are deteriorating in a hurry. These clowns in Washington are moving us ever closer to a totalitarian state. June told me yesterday that the NRA has declared bankruptcy: I will check on it Monday. I hope they are just reorganizing but I will find out. Have a great day and weekend.
