The Keys To A Fruitful Life

Scripture

Keep yourselves very carefully to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and cling to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

~Joshua 22:5, LSB

God loves obedience.

I can’t hardly make it through a daily bible study without making a list. The word ‘cling’ jumped out at me a couple of days ago. This Hebrew word is first used in Genesis 2:24, Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and cleave [cling] to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. Moses uses this same word in Deuteronomy six times; three is a positive sense and three in the negative. I first noticed it in Deuteronomy 10, Yahweh your God you shall fear; Him you shall serve, and to Him you shall cling, and by His name you shall swear. It is used again in chapter eleven, For if you are careful to keep this entire commandment which I am commanding you to do, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all His ways, and to cling to Him, and again in chapter 30, So choose life in order that you may live, you and your seed, by loving Yahweh your God, by listening to His voice, and by holding fast [cling] to Him. The one thing all these verses have in common is the word cling. If you make a composite list, it will look like this:

  1. Listen to Yahweh
  2. Swear by Yahweh [allegiance and loyalty]
  3. Love Yahweh with all your heart and soul
  4. Walk in the ways of Yahweh [follow Him]
  5. Keep Yahweh’s commandments [obey]
  6. Cling to Yahweh
  7. Serve Yahweh in work and worship

The word cling means to stick tight, to adhere, to hold fast like glue, to cleave or stick close. Evidently Adam and Eve were not clinging when the serpent approached Eve. Moses and Joshua were trying to teach the Israelites to cling to Yahweh, to stay very close, to listen, to love and to obey Him. This would determine whether or not they would get to stay in the land. Moses told them in Deuteronomy 30, “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your seed, by loving Yahweh your God, by listening to His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Praise God from whom all blessing flow. Hallelujah for the rain! It rained her for five or six hours. I sat up to midnight just to see the rain. It was wonderful. Sorry I am late but too excited about the rain to go to sleep.

June doing better the last two days. She is already making changes in my kitchen. I didn’t have the plates stacked like she wanted them. I told her to stay out of my kitchen until she is able to take over and then she can have it.

On my way to see Joyce in Cullman {Cindy’s mom}. Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog. It may have a lot of errors, I don’t have time to proof.
