Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.
~2 Corinthians 1:3, HCSB
Quote
God is the Father of a multitude or variety of mercies. There is no sin or misery but God has mercy for it.
~Thomas Goodwin
Jesus told the story of the Prodigal Son because the Pharisees and Scribes had a skewed view of God. To them God was austere, distant, harsh and unforgiving. It is said that our first image of God comes from our earthly father. It is true that whatever good you see in your earthly father is a reflection of the benevolent goodness of our Heavenly Father and what you see in them that is bad is the opposite and does not reflect God’s person and attitude at all. One of the many outstanding characteristics of the Prodigal’s Father was his mercy. As I have said many times there is enough gospel in Luke 15 to save the world. I hadn’t given that much thought to how many times mercy is used in the Bible in the plural until I began reading GENTLE AND LOWLY. David testified in 1 Chronicles 21:13…Please let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are very great. He said again is Psalm 145..The LORD is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works. Jeremiah said, Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning. Notice Jeremiah said God mercies never end and they are new every morning. I think Goodwin is right, our Heavenly Father has a store house of mercies and there is a mercy for every sin, misery and need. Hebrews 4:16 exhorts us…So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Goodwin said, God has a multitude of all kinds of mercies. As the devil is the father of lies; so our heavenly Father is the Father of mercies. There is no sin or misery but that God has a mercy for it. He has a multitude of mercies of all kinds. If you would, He has a shop, a treasury of all kinds of mercies. So large and varies are you needs, so large and varied are His mercies. There is no danger in our thinking too much of the Father or His ability to show mercy; the danger is to think too little. John Flavel said, “Our heavenly Father is more tender toward us than we are toward ourselves, or ever can be.”

My weather ap has lowered the chance for rain on Friday. It got as high as 70% but now it is down to 63%. I hope we get all 63%.
Tonight at the POINT…Counting The Cost…Book IV…Chapter 9. Lord willing, we should finish the study July 24 and then I think we are going to PROVERBS.
Have a great day…watch the heat…thanks for reading the blog.
