Scripture
To this end, like an eager wrestler, I exert all my strength in reliance upon the power of Him who is mightily at work within me.
~Colossians 1:29, Weymouth
Quote
We are encapable of living lives that are pleasing to God apart from His grace. We need His help day by day and hour by hour.
~Billy Graham
I got a blessing out of reading Colossians in Weymouth’s translation. To be honest, I had never noticed how simular Colossians 1:29, is to the three verses below:
- Philippians 1:6– Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
- Philippians 2:13–For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.
- Ephesians 3:20–Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.
I am not too sure of many things, but there is one thing I firmly believe; God’s grace is working in me. My attitude about so many things has changed and I didn’t make the change. I know I am not as far along as I should be but I feel certain that He is still working on me. It is a great thing to be a bondslave of Jesus Christ; to be His servant. What an honor to be His royal ambassador, to represent His presence, to share His love and to talk with others about His goodness and mercy.
When I surrendered to preach, I thought I was making a huge sacrifice. There were only two other sacrifices that i considered greater: being a missionary and being a martyr. I asked the LORD for a wife to help me and He gave me June. She and I left Limestone County in 1971 and neither of us imagined that we would never return. We started out with nothing and we still have most of it, but we have what we need and much more than we deserve. Folks, I can’t look you in the eye and say I’ve made sacrifices. I would have said that thirty years ago but not now. When I came to Danville in 1979 I didn’t want to be anyone’s pastor. I was determined to prove that God did not know what He was doing by calling me to Danville. Of course I was wrong. To be honest, I don’t know when my heart for being a pastor changed but for the last thirty or so years, I have been thankful for the call. Yes, there have been some trying times but over all, it has been a blessing that I would not trade for a million dollars, and we need the money.

June is good to go and plans to be with me tonight as we journey to Morgan City. She will be able to drive by tomorrow but the lifting restrictions are still on. We had a good turnout last night and a very good spirit. I have only one regret: I couldn’t enjoy the dessert bar: wow, did we have desserts or what. I was thrilled that Christy got to come.
Jason Hollaway’s dad departed this world on Tuesday and the visitation is tonight at Morgan City Church of God. It is on the left right before you get down town Morgan City. They have a beautiful building.
I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
