Scripture
I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and He saved me from my enemies.
~Psalm 18:3, NLT
Quote
That we may not complain of what is, let us see God’s hand in all events; and that we may not be afraid of what shall be, let us see all events in God’s hand.
~Matthew Henry
A little sidebar before we get into the meat of the message. Matthew Henry was born on June’s birthday, in the year 1662. He departed this world in the prime of life {age 51}. His father Philip Henry was a cleric in the Church of England. I wonder if there is a relation between him and Patrick Henry. I do admire Patrick Henry and that reminds me of my subject. Our last presidential election was fraudulent. Washington DC was filled with politicians who knew all about it and not one of them lifted a finger to stop it. Why? Because they all shared a hate for Donald Trump. I am talking about folks like Richard Shelby who wore the Republican label but was always a pork barrel democrat. King David was a politican of sorts and he had his share of enemies. David was honest enough to confess that his enemies were stronger than himself and he pleaded with God to save him from his enemies. God heard his prayer. I admit, my enemies are stronger than I am. I speak mainly of those rooted in my flesh: pride, lust, resentment, greed, etc. There may be some humans who hate me and want to destroy me but if there are, I am not aware of it. David did have a group of people who were out to get him. David was victorious over his enemies because he did not underestimate their power and ability. He knew he needed God’s intervention to overcome them.
Joseph Stalin was born to a poor ethnic Georgian family. He had no aristocratic roots. Not only was he a commoner, he had a criminal record. He was what we call a thug. He was in prison when the revolution took place and when released, he joined the communist party and was one of those who adored Lenin. He was such a zealot that he made a big impression on Lenin. When Lenin died in 1924, Stalin inherited {so to speak} party leadership. Lenin had other disciples more capable but none as ruthless as Stalin. Since force and violence was needed to proceed with Lenin’s plan, the other committee members did nothing to stop or restrain Stalin. They didn’t like him and they didn’t trust him, but the general consensus was they would use him to enforce the reign of terror necessary for the revolution to be consummated and then they would eliminate Stalin. This is not what happened. Stalin was a step ahead of them. He knew they despised him and were using him so he began having them executed one by one until there was no one in the party who would oppose him. The reign of terror lasted thirty years because some very intelligent communist party members underestimated the strength of their enemy. We must not make the same mistake. We are no match for evil: either the devil, the world, the flesh, or the Marxist Democratic Party. We must have God’s help.
Jerusalem was corrupt when Christ walked the face of this earth. The Jewish religious establishment had sold their souls to greed. They were obsessed with money and power just like our modern day Washington D.C. Pray for revival. Pray for God’s intervention. Evil is entrenched in D.C. The swamp is deep and infested with parasites. It will take a miracle to drain it. Remember, nothing is impossible with God.

Billy Grahams devotion for today was on cherishing and giving thanks for our religious freedom. It is a wonderful priviledge and I am thankful that I can meet with fellow believers and celebrate Jesus. Long may our land be bright with freedom’s holy light; protect us with Your might, great Savior, LORD, and King.
Have a happy 4th.
