Unfolding Grace

Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.

~2 Corinthians 4:16, MSG

God’s grace is not an excuse to sin but a motivation to serve.

Some say that God’s mercy and grace are not infinite, I disagree. I guess it all depends on how you define infinite. When I think of infinite, I thing of something that is limitless, unbounded and impossible for a human to measure. Hell does not exist because God is short on grace. It exist for those who refuse to accept His grace. People don’t go the hell because God is out of grace. So I’m going out on the limb and say, “God’s grace is infinite.” It is something that we cannot exhaust. Just as His mercies are new everyday so is His grace. Grace is more than undeserved gifts, it is His enabling power imparted to us. How do we face difficult situation? With God’s grace. You see life can be a struggle at times and this is exactly what Paul is talking about in 2 Corinthians 4. Think about what Paul is saying…We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.  We are hunted down {persecuted}, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. There you have it: pressed, perplexed, persecuted and punched in the face. How do we deal with these adversities? God gives us grace to deal with them.

You know some things come in folds; there can be bi-folds, tri-folds or mega quadruple folds. Paul said, “I see more grace unfolding every day.” Just when you get to wit’s end and are wondering if God is not exhausted with your failure: there it is, more grace, grace upon grace. Everything is grace. Preachers can be critical of other preachers. Several years ago I was with a group of preachers who were being less than gracious toward another preacher and his moral failure. I called a time out: “Listen fellows, everything is grace. A part from grace, this same thing could have happened to any of us.” I just want to tell you folks, God is not running short of grace. If you are not experiencing His grace; it is not due to a limited supply. It is due to your rebellion. Repent and you’ll see His grace unfold and it will be grace upon grace.

Well folks, Summer is upon us. I awoke earlier than normal and came to the office at 4:00 am and it was warm, so warm that my AC had kicked on. First time that has happened this year. How many of you think I can make it through the summer without complaining about the heat? We also need a rain at 1120 Iron Man and at the farm in Lawrence County.

VBS begins today. As far as I know, we are the only church in the area having a VBS this year. I think we will have a good turnout. We are going to be taking both vans and I need one driver for tonight. Big Mama and Holly are not on the insurance. I’ll give you a $25 Cracker Barrel gift certificate. We leave 1120 Iron Man at 5:15 sharp.
