Weakness

Scripture

For to be sure, He was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power.

~2 Corinthians 13:4

Quote

We are saved literally by Christ weakness.

~Ya’akov

Although Jesus was God, He did not cling to His deity or His divine rights. He possessed supernatural power and could do things that only God can do but He never abused or took advantage of this power. As a matter of fact, to accomplish His mission, He had to make Himself weak. We call this the ‘kenosis’ in theology: Christ emptying Himself for our sakes. He gave up His divine rights and humbled Himself like a servant, to the point of dying on a cross. The disciples struggled with Jesus theology and practice. They wanted Him to use His supernatural power to restore the Kingdom of Israel. When He talked about His suffering, they cringed. They did not want Him to humiliate Himself nor to suffer.

By His very nature, Christ was and is not weak; there was no one on this earth who could humiliate Him or make Him weak other than Himself. He made Himself weak for our sakes. He had to make Himself weak to be arrested. You don’t put God in chains unless He allows it. He had to make Himself weak during the trial. They would never have convicted Him without His help. They had no evidence against Him. He choose not to defend Himself so He could defend you and me. Yes, He had the power to save Himself but we would have been lost in the process. Three times Paul asks the LORD to remove the thorn that was in his flesh and the LORD’s answer was “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

What one thing grips you most, inspires you most, comforts you most and moves you most? Is it not the passion of Christ and His weakness on the cross. The cross of Christ moves us because we know that He endured this horrible suffering for us. We know He was innocent and we are guilty. We deserve what He got! When we are struggling, we do not go back to the miracles of Jesus walking on water or turning water into wine, we always go back to the cross where Jesus died in weakness. Why did God choose not to heal Paul? Why did He prefer using Paul’s weakness rather than his strength? I am glad you ask. If God worked through our strength, we would take the credit but when He works through our humiliation, we simply bow our heads, give Him thanks, and praise Him for His grace and mercy.

Another great weekend…THANK YOU JESUS! According to Big Mama, we had 103 total {both services} at the Point. Two Sundays in a row of 100 plus attendance which is good for us. God is good forever and always!

Tomorrow in Tom Bennich’s birthday. Carol brought flowers in his memory yesterday but like a dummy, I didn’t read the bulletin and didn’t know what they were for. What a privilege to get to be Dewayne and Carol’s pastor and Mrs. Edith and Cleo as well. Tom was good to the Bailey’s. Tom was good to everyone. We love him and miss him: there will never be another Tom.

I hope you have a great week and thanks for reading the blog.
