I am almost certain that I have blogged on this verse before. Weeds are a part of the curse. Adam’s first garden was a virtual paradise but after the fall, it was cursed with weeds, thorns and snakes. All of us who garden would love to have a plot that was weed free, but on this earth, there is no such thing. Thus there is a need for a hoe so we can separate the weeds from the plants, otherwise the weeds will become so thick and so big that they will choke the plants and steal all the minerals, nutrients and fertilizer. Keeping a garden weed free is no small task. Today’s verse set me to thinking about weeds {evil}.

First of all, they are unwanted. What gardener or farmer wants weeds in their crop? A person would have to be fool to have such a desire. No farmer in his right mind is going to plant weeds. We all hate weeds. The second thing that comes to mind: we don’t plant them, they just spring up. We will have weeds whether we want them are not: they just happen. Thirdly, they are unsightly. Who picks weeds and puts them in a vase? No one because all weeds are ugly and disgusting. Fourth: weeds are unproductive; all they produce is more weeds. It is interesting to note that in the ancient world, weeds had no future: they were bound to be pulled up by the roots and cast into the fire.

I think the weeds are a symbol of evil. Who wants evil? I certainly don’t. Evil is ugly and unsightly. It is toxic and destructive. The Psalmist said in verse six, “Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this.” Some translations use the word undiscerning. I like the word fool. If you do not see evil in this world, you are a fool; undiscerning at best. Andy Rooney said, “The democrats believe people are basically good, but must be saved from themselves by the government. Republicans believe that people are basically evil, but they will be OK if the govenment leaves them alone.” The left still makes the claim that men are not evil unless they are Trump supporters. Trump supporters are racist, vermin, deplorable, bigots and whatever slur they can articulate. The left does believe in one sin, that it is wrong for you and I to call what they do sin. In other words, it is a sin to call sin a sin.

There are weeds in Washington, Bejing, Moscal, London and Istanbul, but their are weeds in your own heart. Pride, lust, greed, anger, envy, vanity and many others. As I said, “I do not like weeds in my garden or yours.” They are unsightly and disgusting. Of course, I am not coming over to weed your garden. I have more than enough weeds to keep me busy here at home. I do hate weeds.

I don’t watch much college basketball; not until March. I was pulling for the SEC yesterday and some of our teams stunk it up. I hope the same doesn’t happen today but it could. Missouri and Georgia played awful. As Sonny Smith use to say, “Missouri could throw the ball in a lake if they were sitting in a boat.” They couldn’t even hit free throws. I would like to see four SEC teams in the sweet sixteen and two in the final four.

First day of spring was like winter. I try not to let the weather get me down but yesterday was tough. I hinted for stew but my cook said, “NO!” When she says NO, she means NO! I settled for a bowl of tomato soup. Hopefully, it will warm back up today. It was 29 degrees when I came to the office this morning.

I made a few door step visits yesterday: to my knowledge, our sick folks are holding there own. If there is any change, I am not aware. David Mote was asleep. Pray for David and Amanda and Amanda’s parents–Rick and Doreen Freeman. Pray for all our sick folks. It is too early now but I will be checking in with the others later today.
