James makes a comparison between two kinds of wisdom: one is earthly, sensual and demonic and the other is from above. The earthly-sensual wisdom is highly competitive, jealous, envious, it makes false claims and defies the truth. James said, “When you have jealously and rivalry, you also get disorder and every sort of evil. Then James describes the WISDOM from above: it is pure, peace-loving, considerate, open-minded, straight-forward, sincere, rich in compassion and in acts of kindness. This list came from the REB so lets compare the NLT: Pure, peace-loving, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy, fruitful in good deeds, impartial, sincere and always planting seeds of peace. The NIV is similar to the NLT but lets look at one more, the NASB: Pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruit, unwavering and without hypocrisy.
As you can see, we need the wisdom from above. We don’t need competition or rivalry. We don’t need to jockey for a higher seat in the pecking order. We need to love peace and work toward that end. We may not win the argument or get our way but if we will be considerate of others, we will reap a good harvest. Peace is the seed-bed of righteousness. It is the environment in which righteousness grows and develops.
Danville won for the first time in two years thanks in part to penalties. North Jackson had as many as 6 penalties on one drive. The final was 20-6. Ty will play today at 12:00 right in the heat. Two weeks ago we had a perfect day but now we are in the middle of a heat wave.
I have to go back to when the kids were young to remember a cool September. The last time I went to Hartselle’s Depot Day the hear was unbearable but FALL IS COMING and we have something to look forward to, hallelujah.
