Scripture
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be madeknown to God.
~Philippians 4:6, NASB
Quote
A grateful heart opens the windows of heaven.
~Sarah Young
I have used this quote before but there is truth in the content. Paul always mentions giving thanks when on the subject of prayer. I was studying in the kitchen last night and so I was forced to use my I-pad because my books were in the office. I went to the Blue Letter commentaries and was disappointed until I got to Matthew Henry [1622-1714]. Henry was the son of a minister who showed great promise as a youth; so his father sent him to London for a higher education. He could read a Greek New Testament at the age of nine. He was also well versed in Latin. Needless to say, he had a very keen mind and he loved theology. His claim to fame is a six volume commentary of the entire bible. It was the first commentaries I owed, but the set given to me was old and tattered and I do not know what has become of them. I am tempted to order a new set.
There is on Matthew Henry story I want to tell and it relates to having a grateful heart and illustrates what Paul is talking about in Philippians. Henry was with a friend when a group of robbers held them up. They did not take their clothes but they took all their money. When the thieves hurried off, Henry kneeled to give thanks. His friend said, “What for man, we have just been robbed?” Henry proceeded by praying, “LORD I thank thee that these men have never robbed me before and although they took my money, they did not take my life, although they took all I had, it was not much and I thank you most that I was robbed and not I who robbed.” LORD give us this spirit of gratitude.

I have always wanted to see Morgan City Church of God and we saw it last night. The visitation of the Charlie Hollaway family was in the sanctuary of this great church. They have a marvelous facility. Jason’s father was highly respected and the turn out was huge. It would have been a two hour wait and I knew that neither June or I could stand that long. I stuck my head in to wave at Jason, Carrie and Brylee, and he came out to see June and I. We deeply appreciate it. It does an old heart good to be treated with respect by young folks like Jason. The COLS is today at 2:00 at Morgan City Church of God.
We got a shower here at 1120 Ironman. I still haven’t figured my electronic rain gage out, but we got enough to help those two rows of corn I planted early yesterday morning. Our grass is beginning to grow and our shrubs have already bloomed. Spring is around the corner.
God bless you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
