Yada, Yada

Then I acknowledged [yada] my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Quote

Never trust anyone who does not confess their sins.

I have blogged before on this often used Hebrew word but let me refresh your memory just a bit. This little Hebrew word ‘yada’ is used 1,007 times in scripture including Genesis 4:1 where Adam got to know Eve. It is used in Psalm 46, “Be still and know that I am God.” It is also used in today’s text, Psalm 32:5 where David said, “I acknowledged my sin.” ‘Yada can be translated to know, to know by experience, to perceive, to discern, to distinguish, to recognize, to acknowledge, to confess or to admit.

‘Yada’ is a fascinating word; it can be used in many ways and in many tenses including to know via the five senses. You know a skunk by its smell which is as much as I want to know a pole cat. In Psalm 32, ‘yada’ is used in regards to our sins. Do you know [yada] your sins? Well we know some of them. We know the ones that plague our conscience; we know the ones that the Holy Spirit puts His finger on. I am a firm believer that we don’t know all our sins. To be honest, I don’t think we could handle it. Confession is basically agreeing with God so what does He think of our sin? Our inclination to sin is a form of rebellion; it is a conscious choice on our part to live as we please. This in scripture is called TRANSGRESSION, a willful sin of rebellion. Then David used three other words for sin. The Hebrew word ‘hataa’ means to miss the mark like an archer missing the bulls eye in the center of the target. It is a coming up short; being less than what we should be. Then there is the Hebrew word ‘avon’ which is sometimes translated iniquity. It means twisted and perverted: it is calling adultery and affair or pornography art. The last word David uses is ‘remiya’ which is sometimes translated guile or deceit. Sin is deceitful by nature. We become even more deceitful when we begin covering it up or at least making that attempt.

President Trump and Franklin Graham are marching for LIFE this Friday. If I had known a little sooner, I would have joined. I appreciate the president’s courage, this is going to infuriate the left. They will as mad as an old setting hen. PTL for the warm weather and sunshine.
