A Joyful Noise

Scripture

O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation.

~Psalms 95:1, KJV

The same gospel that once caused men to shout, now puts them to sleep.

I am a baptist, make no mistake about that and yes I have heard it said many times: “It is not how loud you shout or how high you jump, but how straight you walk when you hit the ground.” I do know there is much more to worship than fanatical Pentecostalism but we baptist or so straight laced and rigid that we have completely lost the meaning of the shout. You will find the term “Joyful Noise” in the King James. multiple times but all the other translations use the word ‘shout’. Even the New King James translates it ‘shout joyfully.’ The little Hebrew word rûaʿ  is a loud shout of joy, triumph, excitement or alarm. It is the exact same word used four times in Joshua chapter six. For example Joshua 6:5, When you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. Again in 6:20, And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. It is interesting to note that this was an orchestrated shout lead by Joshua. It was not a random shout nor was it an impulsive shout. Joshua commanded them to shout at a certain time.

When I was a kid, I worked along side a field hand of Mr. Horton Newby’s. His name was Jake and he was the quiet type. He did like blackberry pie. Jake would say, :I’d like to dive into a blackberry pie that was over my head and then eat my way out,”  but Jake was also fund of the jug and his wife would tempt any man to hit the bottle. Bro. Inman lead Jake to the LORD and baptized him. When Jake walked down into the water, his wife went berserk. Bro. Inman had to pause and let her have her say: it was a tirade of wild shouting. I was stunned and confounded. I had to ask mother later what it was all about. I think this kind of thing has given shouting a bad name but Jews used shouting in their worship and it is a wonderful thing when it is done the right way with the right motive. We might see some walls fall today if we were not so inhibited and so afraid of what others think. I am not for random shouting but I am all for the orchestrated shout. Shouting {making a joyful noise} doesn’t leave anyone out. I can’t sing that well but I can shout with the best of them.

EXTRA

I got rid of all my Max Lucado books because I found out he was woke. I was reading the NIV Commentary yesterday by Dennis Tucker of Baylor University and he mentions ‘social justice’ three or four times and ended with the racism theme and how the church has lead the way in social injustice and he never mentioned abortion. How in thunder can anyone read Psalm 94 and not see the plight of the most vulnerable and voiceless in our society who are being murdered by the millions. He doesn’t mention one word about the present holocaust. He has a Phd. In this case, I think it stands for Pilled High and Deep. I have quoted this guy in the blogs but I’m not sure I can read this commentary any more. All these ‘woke’ people are the same. None of them are pro-life and they all make excuses for the democrats.

A special prayer for Sheila Archer today. Marlon’s COLS is at 1:00 pm. Seems like I am forgetting something but it will come to mind as soon as I post….

GRACE POINT…there has been a change of plans. Keith Blackwood is coming this Sunday instead of October 24. He and I are going to split the pulpit time. Keith will do a Gideon presentation and I will lead in communion. Be prepared to give to the Gideons this Sunday.
