Scripture
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
~Psalm 27:1, NIV
Quote
To love God is to destroy all other fear. To love the world is to be afraid of everything.
~Elisebeth Elliot
I don’t watch news. This has been my habit for well over 30 years. There are three reasons I don’t watch the news. First, they have no integrity. Practically everything they say is a lie. They skew the narrative and turn every event into an opportunity for propaganda. Back in the 80’s Danville High School old gym caught fire early one winter morning. There was a sheet of ice on the ground. Visibility and traffic conditons were bad. Charlie and Betty Lindsey heard and explosion about 5:00 am. A furnace in the old gym had exploded and by the time they could get outside to look, they saw fire coming out of the roof. Betty called me and I called MD Prater. He and I got our two fire trucks and headed to the school. Jimmy Seagars was on his way to work and he stopped, one other person stopped and we concentrated on saving the classroom building. Everything that could be done was done in the first 30 minutes. Then here comes trucks from Hartselle and Decatur, a little later Channel 31 and 19. Our old truck had come from the forest; they were not even red. I watched the reporters interview the Hartselle Chief and the Decatur Chief but never asks our chief any questions. I approached them and questioned them. They promised they would interview the Danville Chief. I watched them. They lied. That night I watched the news and the only thing they got right was that the old gym burned. I was disgusted. I asked MD if he saw the news and he said I did. He could tell I was upset with them and I will never forget what he said, “They didn’t come to get the truth, they came to get a story.” I have never trusted them since.
But there is a second reason I don’t watch news: they never report the good things and the third is: they peddle fear. They are fear mongers. They will go out of their way to report a horror story but they will not mention noble things like a high school kids continuing to have baccalaureate although the school doesn’t promote it or a U.S. President donating his salary to the veterans. The world is shaking in fear and the nightly news shares much of the blame. My philosophy is to feed my faith and starve my doubt. I had much rather hear what God has to say than some liberal tell me what he or she thinks. They are full of bull and God’s word is full of truth. You keep listening to them and you will lose your courage and your faith.

Strange weather, heat in the morning and A/C in the afternoon. Today is June’s birthday. She is 67. She loves Dot’s on highway 20 so we are going there for lunch. Want to thank all my prayer partners; the COLS for Elnora Garner went well. I want to thank Buddy for attending and I had Holly and Joe David there praying for me too. The meal that Mandy and crew served afterwards was superb; that is two in a row.
I hope you have a great Friday and thanks for reading the blog.
