Gullibility

Scripture

A naive person will believe anything, but the shrewd person discerns his steps.

~Proverbs 14:15, NET

Beware of the experts.”

~Jesus

Life is not easy when it comes to discernment. There are many voices and they all seem to contradict one another. John said, Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Do not believe anything you hear on the nightly news. The media is very bias and they have an agenda. It is safe to say that practically all news, at least 96%, is promoting a false narrative. They are not telling you the truth. I have not watched the news in over 30 years but I can tell you who does and who don’t. The recent pandemic is proof of the pudding. Those who are scared out of their wits and wear mask religiously are watching the nightly news who promoted fear and panic from the very beginning. I know I am wasting my breath on these senior adults who are addicted to the news but I’m telling you, the news is not reliable. Neither can you believe all you read in history books but we don’t have history anymore, we have social studies which promotes socialism and reconstructs history. It is a big part of the lefts reeducation plan. You sure can’t believe all you read and hear in the field of science which changes daily. Finally, you can’t believe all you hear from the pulpit either because there are many false prophets gone out into the world and they are deceiving many.

So who do we believe? The safest bet in the holy scriptures which never change. The combo of the holy scripture and the Holy Spirit is the key. The litmus test for any preacher is–does his message ring true with scripture in its full context. Most false prophets use scripture but they take it out of context. I know it is tough to sort things out: it is hard for me and I have been studying scripture for 50 years. I have some practical rules that guide me. [1] I give very little credence to a know-it-all. I don’t trust any man who has all the answers. [2] I look for and listen for transparency. Is the person being honest. Many outstanding preachers never confess one sin. Does this mean they don’t sin? The Bible says clearly, we all sin. I am going with the Bible. There is no credibility in a pretender. [3] Obviously, you have to study the scripture for yourself. You need your own personal bible study time. Milk is previously digested food and you need some meat to go with it. Personal bible study is the only way to get meat. You can’t get meat from your SS teacher or your preacher. You sure can’t get it from Beth {no} Moore. [4] Then you trust the Holy Spirit to guide you. He is the real teacher, the illuminator of truth. Without Him, we are walking in the dark. [5] One other thing: feed your faith and starve your doubt. What will the TV and the news paper feed? Your doubts! What will the scriptures feed? Your faith!

Doug has reconsidered and there is a chance he will be coming to Grace Point as our Praise and Worship leader. There are still some details to work out but it looks promising to me.

Larry Slatter had a bad week and is waiting on a bed at UAB. Pray for Larry and Rhonda. Pray that a room will open up today.
