Hankering After Evil

Scripture

But with most of them {Israelites} God was not well pleased; for they were laid low in the desert. This serves as a warning to us, not to hanker as they did after evil.

~Hebrews 10:5-6, Weymouth

God may have some rebellious children, but He has no spoiled ones.

The Israelistes were hardheaded, stubborn, stiff-necked and rebellious. The generation that came out of Egypt saw more miracles than all the other generations combined, and yet they were unbelieving. They did not rebel once, they rebelled repeatedly. Rebellion became a way of life. They refused to acknowledge the true nature of sin. They did not recognize God’s majesty or His holiness, and thus they did not see the grotesque nature of sin and evil. There is really nothing attractive about sin once you see it up close and personal. I will never forget working for Bob Harrington for a month or so at his office on Bourbon Street. His office was upstairs over one of the strip joints. I went into work {early morning} just as the strippers were going home. Up close, they looked pretty rough. Harlotry is a rough life and hard on the body. These girls aged before their time. One young lady, who worked as a prostitute, told me that she had to take drugs in order to perform. This was in 1972 and I am sure the problem has gotten worse.

God is robed in majesty. This is because He is holy. Once you reach a certain point in your spiritual pilgrimage, you will realize that NOTHING unholy can be beautiful. This is what made Jesus attractive: it was not His physical features, it was His unpretentious holiness. He was good through and through and people were drawn to Him. Of course there were those who hated Him for the same reason: His holiness was reflecting their unholiness. Take a picture of the beautiful woman in a garden of dead trees and thorn bushes and covered with hideous serpents. Would you be drawn to her? If you saw the thorns and the snakes, you would keep your distance, right? The Israelites never saw the thorns or snakes. They hankered for sin and evil. They hankered for their own destruction.

Believe it or not, we needed some rain here at 1120 Iron Man and we got it. I was afraid for a while that it was going to miss us all together but we got a shower about 10:30. What about those Ole Miss Rebels and the SEC. We have seven teams in the sweet sixteen. No conference has ever done this! Florida had me worried. Surely we will get a couple in the final four.

Its Spring break week which means June’s gets the week off on cooking breakfast for the GK’s and I have no meetings today. The transmission on my truck is bad and hopefully we will get it to the mechanic today. No soccer this week. Very good attendance at both places yesterday. I had something happen that I don’t ever remember happening before. I will tell you about it someday, maybe, but not today. It is unbelievable!

Keep praying for our sick. David Mote is the most critical.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
