Help, I Need A Helper

Scripture

I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever.

~John 14:16, GNT

Quote

The life Jesus expects His followers to live is unattainable apart from divine intervention.

~Charles F. Stanley

I planned to take off today and bush hog at the farm in Lawrence County but when I read Stanley’s devotion, I thought, I need to share this because it could help someone through the day. Charles is right on the money, we all need help when it comes to pleasing the LORD. Go to your concordance and type in the word “help.” This plea for assistance comes up again and again in all of Davids prayers in Psalms. David needed help, I need help, you need help, we all need help! This is why Jesus gave us a HELPER, the Ruach ha Kodesh, the Spirit of Holiness. He is a person, a part of the blessed trinity and he indwells all believers. The good news is: Jesus knows we cannot please Him without help and He has graciously given us a helper. He helps us understand God’s word; He helps us pray; He helps us witness to others and of course, He helps me preach. He convicts us of sin. He is the inner umpire who blows the whistle when we foul or step out of bounds. He is the Comforter who guides us to all truth. He is our illumination, inspiration and motivation. I have to be honest: I preached a very hard sermon yesterday but I cannot take the credit. When I stepped behind the sacred desk, as the old folks use to say, the words just started pouring out. When that happens, I know that it is not Jack. Today, I want to praise Him, the blessed Holy Spirit and thank Him for His gracious help. Without it, I could do nothing: of that I am sure.

I hope you have a great extension of the 4th. It is always nice to begin a week with a holiday, amen. I think we need at least one per month. Have a great week!
