Honesty With God

Scripture

“I am weary of my life; I will complain freely without restraint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.”

~Job 10:1, NLT

Quote

Thank You Father, that we can come to You when we are distressed and confused because our life has become difficult.

~Billy Graham {Wisdom For Each Day, p.322}

I don’t do if often but when I do, I give credit. This is straight out of Billy Grahams devotional but it spoke to my heart. Trust me, I needed what Dr. Graham had to say this morning…

You can understand Job’s bitterness; he had lost everything–family, fortune, friends and even his health, but the hardest blow of all was that he could not understand why God, who he had worshipped and served faithfully, had allowed this to happen to him. Have you ever felt this way toward God? Life can be hard and sometimes it leaves us confused and distressed: even angry and bitter. And like Job, you have told God exactly how you felt. And why not? He already knew your mind and heart and he doesn’t want us to pretend that everything is alright when it isn’t. He did not chastise Job for his honesty; He understood his heartache, just as He understands ours–He still loved Job just as He still loves us. But Job didn’t just keep complaining as we are prone to do; instead, he turned toward God in faith, and in time, God gave him comfort and peace. Were all his questions answered? No, but he came to realize that God could be trusted even when we don’t understand.

Dr. Grahams sagacious words spoke to me and I trust they will do the same for you. Let me give you one other verse to meditate upon. It is Psalm 119:143, “Trouble and distress have overtaken me, but I find joy in God’s word.” {JEV}
