Lost Prayers

Scripture

You know what I long for, Lord; You hear my every sigh.

~Psalm 38:9, NLT

Quote

Not one earnest prayer is lost to the ears of the Almighty.

Some years ago, hundreds of unopened letters were found off the coast of New Jersey. How they got into the ocean and how they survived the water is a mystery. The person who found them gave them to a News Paper editor. When he began opening the letters he realized they were prayer request sent to a New Jersey pastor. Many of the letters had never been opened. The News Paper editor jumped to the conclusion that all these prayers were wasted because the minister never opened them. The Editor was wrong. The prayers were articulated in the letters and God knew what was in every letter. The LORD knows our hearts. Sometimes we don’t have the ability to put our prayer into words but the LORD sees the heart and hear the sighs. The minister may have failed on his part but our two High Priest did not fail. We have the Holy Spirit within us to intercede when our groanings cannot be uttered and we have Jesus at the right hand of the Father. We have these two infallible prayer helpers working 24/7/365. No prayer get lost. No prayer is ever wasted.

The prayer journal I keep is not for the LORD. He doesn’t need my records. I keep the journal for myself. I think of as a treasure box; I write my prayer and put it into the treasure box. I still have entries from 50 years ago. When I go way back {20-30 years}, I am amazed at the prayers God has answered. So I keep my prayers, which will be burned when I am gone, so that I can go back and read them and see what God has done, and because they are valuable to me. We treasure things we value. Some people horde gold and hid money all over the house. There are thousands of prayers hidden in this office. I don’t care what the devil or the world says, there is no such thing as a lost prayer or wasted prayer.

Vellene Tanner, one of our old friends, was promoted yesterday morning a little after seven. I am fairly certain that she was the oldest member of DBC. We are thinking Joe Fitzgerald is her heir apparent. Her COLS will be this Saturday. Vellene has been going down for a while but it accelerated last week. She was in her chair Friday at noon. After being moved to the hospital for her comfort, she went to sleep and then took her departure. She was hurting all over on Friday and we are thankful that she was able to get some ease from the meds. Vellene was the “Rock.” She was solid and dependable, but seldom if ever driven by her emotions. James said, “No man can tame the tongue.” Vellene came as close as anyone I’ve ever known.

Saw both Gregg and Holly yesterday and both were able to enjoy a meal, PTL.  Keep praying for our cancer warriors. Pray for Lincoln also. Bill Southern is in the Hospital at Madison with Covid and possibly pneumonia: pray for Bill and Carol. You look up FAITHFUL in the dictionary, they pictures should appear: they don’t miss unless something is wrong.

I was pulling for the Eagles last night. I guess the TV folks were tickled, it was a good game that went to the wire. I don’t know who the TV commentators were but I was disappointed. I was expecting Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. I didn’t see every play, I was working a puzzle and listening most of the time. I hate commericals. The Dr. Pepper ads are #1 on my hate list, then Mayhem, then State Farm. I miss Jake and Larry Culpepper but they got replaced for being politically incorrect.

Have a great Monday and a great week.
