Prisoners of Hope

Scripture

And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.

~I Corinthians 15:19, NLT

Quote

Aim at heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither.

~C. S. Lewis

Paul said to the Colossians, “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.  Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” Hope is a theological virtue; every one needs something in which to look forward. We all need a bright future. What would this world be like if there was no hope of heaven? Would man be a better creature if this hope was destroyed? Some have accused Christians of being so heavenly minded that they were no earthly good but history bears witness to the opposite. All of Christ apostles made great contributions to this world: their courage and sacrifice made it a better place to live. The fact that we live for heaven doesn’t mean we spit on the earth. Surely I and all believers want to make this earth a better place to live.

Back to the question: what would life be like if hope for a better life was totally destroyed. We live, we die and that is it: no future beyond the grave. Granted, there are some who believe there is no life after death but they are a minority. Zechariah the Prophet referred to the Jews as prisoners of hope. What did he mean by prisoners of hope? They could not stop hoping. They were unable to give up their hope. Like Mary Magdalene and the other ladies who went to the tomb at daybreak, they could not stop hoping. I shutter to think how violent this world would be if hope could be totally destroyed. I think men would become monsters. We all need hope.

It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas; the Jack Frost is nipping at your nose. I am not complaining. We need to double our efforts on praying for President Donald J. Trump…the demoncrats are after him. We are taking about evil forces in high places. The President needs our prayer support. I am praying for the democratic party to implode and for the evil house of abortion to be destroyed.
