Rills And Rivers

Scripture

I urge first of all that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone…

~I Timothy 2:1, REB

Quote

“A praying man can never be a useless man.”

~Austin Phelps

Until yesterday, I thought a rill was a part of your fishing gear and then I remembered the second verse of My Country Tis Of Thee…
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above.

Rills are tiny streams like a spring fed branch. Austin Phelps was a congregational preacher and theologian but late in life he was physically unable to preach or travel. He was basically confined to quarters and of course he became discouraged. Phelps said, “One thought has assumed a new reality in my mind of late, as an offshoot of my useless life. When a man can do nothing else, he can add a little rill to the great river of intercessory prayer that always flows toward the throne of God.” Wow! What an encouraging thought. I pray daily for Donald Trump and my prayer is a tiny trickle, a very small stream but it is flowing into the river of intercessory prayer that is headed to the throne. Am I the only Christian praying for Trump? No, there are millions of little streams coming into the big stream.

Forget fall, winter is here. Stay worm and have a good day.
