Rush Not

Scripture

Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.

~Proverbs 19:2, NLT

Quote

Beware of hasty or rash decisions.

~Ray dis Comfort

Solomon warned in Ecclesiastes 5, As you enter the house of God, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God. Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few. There is a danger is saying too much too quickly. I have made rash promises that I couldn’t or didn’t keep. Sometimes we over load our wagon without thinking through things. As my mother use to say, “We bit off more than we can chew.” As human beings, we are prone to make rash and unwise decisions. We must learn to slow down and think things through.

One of the blessing of aging is that we slow down. It is not possible for me to move as quickly as I once did. I not only lack the agility, I lack the stamina and the energy. Have you noticed the difference in parenting and grand parenting? Parents rush their children. We want them playing sports by age four. We enter our daughters in beauty contest at age 8. It is the same old, same old, parents reliving their lives through their children. Grand parents don’t rush. They have time to listen. They give children the one thing they want most, TIME and ATTENTION.

But even at the youthful age of 75 we can move to quickly. We have to discipline ourselves to slow down and think. If we don’t slow down and walk through the day prayerfully, we will revert to our default setting which is influenced by vain ambition. Many of my prayers begin with confession because I failed to slow down and stay focused on the presence of Christ in my life. The world is seeing Jack when I want them to see Jesus.

Extra

Sorry about last week. Our internet cable running from the pole to the house was bad and we got it replaced late Saturday evening. Hopefully, there will be no problems getting on line this week.

I think all the churches had somekind of program last night, Shiloh, East Highland and West Hartselle all had parking lots full. I met 104 vehicles on 36 alone. We had a great supper: enough food to fed and army.

Mrs. Edith Bennich fell yesterday morning in the bathroom and crushed her right elbow. She has surgery tomorrow at Decatur General. She is in room 429. She loves company.

I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
