Spreading The Wealth

Scripture

Some people spend their money freely and still grow richer. Others are cautious, and yet grow poorer.

~Proverbs 11:24, GNB

The secret to getting is giving but we don’t give to get: we give to get to give again.

~Jack Taylor

Wise stewards don’t think of money as treasure to bury in the ground or hide in a safe; they think of money as “seed.” They are both generous and prosperous. They understand that the more seed they sow, the greater the harvest and God can trust them with an abundant harvest because he knows they love to sow. Last year, we paid more taxes than we earned in Salary the first four years out of Seminary and we were able to give more than we made in those days. The great thing about making more is that you can give more; you can plant more seed and it will produced a greater harvest. You have to think like a farmer and not a banker. Those who try to keep all they get lose everything. In God’s economy, nothing is truly yours until you give it away.

Now this does not mean that we can spread money around indiscriminately. We are not talking about wasting or giving to every Tom, Dick and Harry who comes along. Wise steward do not give indiscriminately but they do give. The biblical concept of sharing wealth is voluntary. No where does the scripture teach that the government is to spread the wealth by taking from those who have and giving to those who do not. You cannot imagine the abuse going on right now with the food stamp program. I tried to get a widow woman food stamps ten years ago. This woman was a teachers aid and made 16,000 a year and they turned her down. How is it that drug addicts can get food stamps and the few that really need them and would use them for food rather than beer, cigarettes and dope, can’t get them? By the way, beer and cigarettes are both drugs and technically a form of dope.

Solomon said, Be generous, and you will be prosperous. Help others, and you will be helped. It is good sound advice. You cannot out give God: you give in the right spirit and it will come back to you. You may not reap in dollars but the good you do for others will come back to you and you will be blessed.

You may have gotten this twice: I tried to post from the house and it would not allow me to edit. Today is the BIG DAY. They say people are turning out in record numbers and I hope that is a good sign. I believe Trump has millions of silent supporters. These people are intimidated by the left. I think it will be a landslide but of course, that is just what I think. Unfortunately, it isn’t worth anything. I know you will need to pray for me if we lose. If we lose it is God’s judgment upon us for our sin and it will not be pleasant once it starts.

June’s procedure got canceled. The hospital did not submit the paper work in time. Right now, we do not know what the outcome will be. I hope for her sake they can work things out but she is taking it well. We had patches of frost this morning. We will begin to see a lot of leaves drop in the next two weeks. I hope you have a good day and don’t forget to vote.
