Taking Things For Granted

Scripture

When I observe your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you set in place, what is a human being that you remember him, a son of man that you look after him?

~Psalm 8:3-4, CSB

Quote

If the stars came out once every century, people would stay up all night gazing at them.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every now and then I come across a great quote and the one above is right on the money. We humans tend to take things for granted; it is one of our greatest faults. A few years after daddy’s departure, mother and I were on the way home from Nashville and she started talking about missing daddy. I said, “Mother, all y’all did was fuss and fight.” She said, “Yes, I know, but I still miss him.” Then she said, “I’ve give anything to see him one more time.” I’m sure daddy would loved to have known all this when he was here. She did what almost every spouse does, she took him for granted. We do this with practically everything: food, shelter, clothing, etc.

Have you tried counting your blessing lately? It is impossible. One thing after another will pop into your head and the list will be endless. In the midst of all our problems, there are many things to be thankful for and the bible is one of them. The Word of God is precious: what a treasure. What about open space and living in the country. I thank God continually for my office, chair, desk, lamps, bi-focals, A/C {which I might need today} and the list goes on and on. Having family is a huge blessing and what about friends! Grand children are a huge blessing and what about those greats; aren’t they great! Be very careful that you don’t take these things for granted. They could be taken from you so appreciate them while you have the opportunity.

Extra

Our internet stays off more than on lately. This is not the blog I intended to post but the one I prepared yesterday did not get saved due to the internet going out. It was a sequel to the previous two and I can not recall it without some time.

Delois Samford was promoted last night. Pray for her husband Charles. He is a good man and he is taking it hard. Mrs. Edith is at Summerford we think. They will not answer the phone today. I will be checking on Melanie and Christy later today.

Enjoyed the DBS staff Christmas Party yesterday at my favorite restaurant {Longhorn}. They don’t play loud music and they have delivious steaks. Thank you DBC. If I had known you were going to treat me this well, I would have retired years ago.

Executive Committee meeting today and then no more meetings till next year.

Grace Pointer’s we are in Proverbs 10 tonight.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
