The Metaphysician And Miracles

Scripture

“You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: ‘Physician, heal yourself’—meaning, ‘Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.’

~Luke 4:26, NLT

Because science studies nature: the question becomes–“Does anything besides nature {creation} exist? Or does anything exist outside of nature?”

~C.S. Lewis {Religion and Science}

I know that reading and understanding Lewis is difficult. Sometimes I read this stuff a dozen times before it makes sense, but the above argument is quit simple. The atheist, and many scientist, not all, are atheist, {Really, to be honest, I doubt that the unbelievers out number the believers} believe in a closed system with nothing outside or above nature. To them, creation is god. What is so odd is that all creations have a creator, it is a natural law, but one they overlook because it contradicts their premise. We all know that the laws of nature are fixed just like the laws of mathematics. Two plus two is four. It has always been four–it does not change. If I put ten dollars in my top drawer of my chest of drawers today, and add ten more tomorrow; then the following day, I will have twenty dollars according to the laws of nature and math. Are we in agreement? I thought so. But suppose June is putting up my socks and sees the twenty dollars. She knows that what is mine is hers and so she removes one of the tens or both. The laws of math did not change; it was the outside interference that made the difference. So atheist believe that there is nothing greater than creation itself. There is no outside intervention.

Jesus did miracles, one after another; probably more than we can count because I doubt seriously that all were recorded. This was proof that He came from the outside. The religious Jews accused Him of being a mad man and challenged Him to heal Himself. Their problem was: they could not accept the fact that Jesus came from the outside {God}. They had a closed system. Scripture states twice {Psalm 14,53}, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘there is no God.'” This is why there is very little scripture directed toward the atheist. You cannot argue or reason with a fool; It is a complete waste of time to do so. The first church I served right out of seminary, a man came to me and said, “My brother in law wants to meet you. He is an atheist and he likes to argue with preachers.” I said, “You can tell him, I am not interested.” Obviously, he didn’t believe me and came to see me anyway. I refused to talk to him about the subject. He tried several times but I told him repeatedly, “I am not discussing this with you,” and I didn’t.

I don’t believe anyone can be saved who does not believe the Bible is the word of God. Faith comes from hearing the word of Christ, the gospel. If am man doesn’t believe in God, he doesn’t believe in inspired scripture and there is no reference point. There is no place to begin. So you tell me how we are going to convince an atheist that he needs to repent and give his life to Christ. Now, if he or she will admit their error and repent, we have a starting point. Make no mistake about it: Jesus was God and nothing was impossible to Him. He not only healed the sick; He raised the dead. The disciples had nothing to fear when Jesus was near. He could even calm the storms.

Today is the last day of February 2023. When you get old, even January and February go by quickly. Folks Spring is right around the corner; just three weeks away and the time change is even sooner. We have only one Sunday before we spring up.

Pray for me and for the dear folks at Sardis Springs. I have studied a lot {all day yesterday} but have struggled mightily to teach or to share what I have gleaned in my study. I had extended notes last night but couldn’t locate them when I needed them. I get off the script and then can find my place. I need to relax more. This may be the LORD’s way of telling me to hang it up. Plus they live stream which I do not like: that really makes me nervous. I think they said we had two viewers last night which to me is a good reason to shut her down. But I am working for them and so I do what they tell me to do.

Keep praying for our Cancer Warriors. Gregg and Traci are in Little Rock. Debbie Gilliland is at home in bed. She cannot walk. Pray for she and Jimmy. My sister Holly is still have problems with fluid. Other than that and being short of breath like her brother, she is doing pretty good. Lincoln is in treatment and things are going well but Annaka is sick. Andrea and Eric have their hands full.

Have a good day and thanks for reading the blog.
