Through Him

Scripture

But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

~Romans 8:37, NASB

Quote

We are more than conquerors through Him in all these things, not in spite of them, but in the midst of them.

~Oswald Chambers

First of all, we need to define or identify “these things.” What things are Paul eluding to? He tells us in verse 35: tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and death. Take tribulation for example; Paul told the Corinthians, “I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation.” How can anyone rejoice during trying times? In Acts 5 Peter and John are called before the Sanhedrin for healing and teaching in Jesus name. The high court told them to cease speaking in Jesus name. They were sternly warned not to heal in His name or use His name in their preaching and teaching. But the Apostles made no commitment to follow this mandate and so they were flogged or beaten. After this stressful meeting with the high council and the beating, they left the court house rejoicing…The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. {Acts 5:42} We do not get our joy from our circumstances; we get our joy from obeying Jesus. It is through HIM and His great love that we conquer. Our victory is in Jesus.

The same wave that wipes one person out gives a joy ride to another. The bystander on the beach gets wiped out by the huge and fearful wave but the surfer rises above the wave on his surf board and gets the thrill of his life. The waves are coming and you can’t stop them. Your only choice is how you will respond to them. Nothing can come between Christ love and you. His love is the most powerful force in creation. No one or nothing can stop Him from loving you. If that doesn’t put wind in your sails, nothing will. So catch the next wave and ride it. Be an overcomer; not a whiner and complainer.

What about that–nothing about politics or crooked and corrupt politicians or even the fake media. I did good, didn’t I? Another great LORD’s day. What a privilege to preach the gospel.

You never know what a day will bring and yesterday evening our Treasurer’s father was picking up sticks in the back yard and fell dead. He was only 70 years old. I am speaking of the father of Christy Clark. Pray for Christy and family. Especially pray for Christy’s mom who is having a difficult time as you might expect. There was a rash of deaths last week and Joe David is attending Stephanie Shaneyfelt’s moms service today. I think all of them were in their 70’s. One thing is certain folks, this world is not our home. We are not going to stay here long so don’t drive your tent stakes too deep.
