Vexed By Evil

Scripture

He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed {vexed} by the depraved conduct of the lawless.

~2 Peter 2:7, NIV

Quote

Because we are saved by grace and not by works, the gospel is inherently humbling.

~Timothy Keller

We don’t usually think of Lot as a righteous man but according to scripture, he was vexed by the behavior of the Sodomites. The NIV says he was distressed by their depraved conduct. The NLT says he was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him. The Greek word implies being worn out, tired, exhausted from labor or oppression. Keller’s verse for the day was Proverbs 29:27…The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright. We have relativism on the left which says there is no truth, at least no absolute truth and fanaticism on the extreme right which says, there is absolute truth and I am absolutely right. He says both groups are incapable of being tolerant of each other. He is probably right; I don’t feel very tolerant these days. To be frankly honest, I think I have tolerated enough.

The left has created their own dictionary. To them tolerance is our acceptance of their deviant behavior but they don’t have any tolerance for us. Matter of fact, according to their dictionary, hating the right is legit. According to them: you are not righteous unless you hate Trump. You have to give evil credit: it is incessant, relentless, organized, passionate and persistent. It wears us down. Lot was sick and tired of the behavior of those around him. I am sick of fake news, propaganda and slander. I am sick of BLM and the violence and destruction that goes with the movement. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to have sports without politics, like it use to be? I am sick and tired of selfish people demanding their rights while the unborn do not have any rights. I am growing more and more thankful that this world is not my home.

Anyway, I digressed as usual. Keller’s point is that the gospel of Christ is inherently humbling. We will not reach others by being condescending. We must be humble in our demeanor and approach. We must confess that we have the central truth {Jesus} but we don’t have all the answers. Arrogance has no place among us. We are tempted to fight fire with fire but it is not the way of Christ. The left can lie, hate, kill {the unborn}, steal, loot and destroy but we cannot operate on this level. We must tell the truth, love, minister and build rather than destroy.

New word for the day… petrichor, it the scent or the fragrance you smell after a rain on dry ground.

Tracy was still at HH and had a real bad day yesterday but is feeling better today: PTL.

Chloe’s favorite George Jones song is ITS FINALLY FRIDAY but when you are 17, they roll around pretty quick. We have to travel tonight: Big L and company play Colbert Heights. Those mountain folks grow big kids. I have never seen a small Colbert Heights team nor a bad one.
