What God Has Joined

Scripture

Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free!

~Isaiah 55:1, NLT

Never separate what God has joined.

Daniel Juster

Paul said in his second epistle to Timothy, All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped, having been thoroughly equipped for every good work. Peter reiterates this truth in his second epistle, For no prophecy was ever made by the will of man, but men being moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. Do you see the connection between the Spirit and the Word. Scripture, the written word, was inspired by the Holy Spirit. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. When we separate what God has joined, it leads to error.

Let me give you an example. The moralist study the word and then seek to comply or obey the word without the help of the Spirit. This is exactly what the Pharisees attempted to do and they became hyper-judgmental and extremely self-righteous. They fell into the pit of legalism. They emphasized the letter of the law but they totally missed the spirit of the law. They were moral but they were also miserable because it is the spirit that gives life. Not only did the Ruach Hakodesh {Spirit of Holiness} inspire the writing of scripture, He is the only way that you and I can understand scripture. He is the great illuminator. He helps us both to understand and obey or fulfill the word. The combination of the Word and the Holy Spirit are also vital to our sanctification. Paul said in Romans 12, And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may approve what the will of God is, that which is good and pleasing and perfect. The Word and the Spirit are vital in the work of renewal. Study the word prayerfully, asking the Holy Spirit to help you understand and incarnate the word.

We could say the same thing about witnessing. I know the word but knowing it is not enough. I cannot and will not share it with others without the leadership of the Holy Spirit. David always prayed before he went into battle and we pray before we go visiting. We need the unction of the Holy Spirit to share the gospel.

I think Jean got to come home and Anthony Brown is better. Mrs. Willowdean is better I think. Some of Mrs. Leona’s friends were sick yesterday. There were only two at her dinning table. I sat down with her and they brought me some ice cream. Several checked on Mrs. Edith. She may be making slight improvement. She was at Bible Study when I went by but the girls followed up on my visit. She told Hannah, “I love Jack Bailey for what he is, not what he knows.” I guess that means I am ignorant. O well, so long as I am loved, who cares.

I am supposed to have lunch with Teddy and Eddy today at my favorite restaurant {not} Big Bob Gibsons.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog, both of you!
