Wounds

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

The most important part of the believer’s life is the part that only God sees.

~Warren W. Wiersbe

I have a sister who is 85 and she was ten years old when daddy came home from WWII. Mother told me about his return a couple of times but my sister can remember. She made the remark on Labor Day that the war changed daddy and I had heard mother say the same thing more than once. Daddy had a near death experience getting to the front and spent three months on the front moving from fox hole to fox hole. He saw death up close and personal. I had little enough sense to asks {when I was a child} if he ever killed anyone. His answer was, “I fired my weapon but I never looked to see if I hit the target.” Daddy was 32 when they drafted him and due to poor circulation in his legs, they moved him to the kitchen for the last year he spent in Germany. Daddy survived in more ways than one but some of his friends did not; one in particular turned to alcohol and he never recovered.

Man is a triune being: we are body, soul and spirit. Many people confuse soul and spirit but they are two different things. Check out 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. A vegetable has a body, animals have both body and soul but humans have a body, soul, and a spirit. In the work of salvation, the first thing God sanctifies completely is the spirit; the soul He sanctifies progressively and the body ultimately. The reverse is true of Adam fall: Adam spirit died first and immediately. Day by day, his soul withered away and ultimately his body died. When the body is sick; we need a Physician. When the soul is sick; we need a good Christian Psychiatrist and when the spirit is sick; we need a Preacher. I am not a Physician nor a Psychiatrist but I can help you with spiritual matters.

What we must understand is that all three aspects of our person {body, soul, spirit} can be wounded. We tend to accept physical injuries pretty well but we must remember, the soul is very sensitive and it can be wounded. Even deeper and more complicated is the spiritual wounds. The thing you want to do with any wound is to clean it throughly because you do not want an infection. You dress the wound to protect it from germs and further injury. We don’t generally try to hide physical injuries but it is human nature to cover the wounds of the soul {heart} and spirit. If you don’t tend to physical wounds, you will become unhealthy. If you don’t tend to the wounds of the soul, you will become unhappy and if you don’t take care of spiritual wounds, you will become unholy. I am no expert on the wounds of the soul but spiritual wounds that are left unattended will produce bitterness, wrath and ingratitude. Whatever your hurts and pains, do not try to hide them from Jesus. He is the Balm of Gilead. He can heal your soul and spirit.

EXTRA

The farmers need some hot dry weather so I am not going to complain but it did get hot late yesterday evening. The cotton crop is so late this year that if we don’t have some more hot weather, it is not going to do much but personally, I am ready for fall. The way time flies, I am not going to worry about it. I hope you have a good day and thanks for reading the blog.
