The Invisible God

Scripture

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
    let the distant shores rejoice.

~Psalm 97:1, NIV

Our morality is to be based on the holy character of God, and not some shallow form of humanitarism.

~Alton MacEarchern

It amazes me, I read and study a Psalm per day and occassionally there will be an inspirational explosion with sparks flying in all directions. It is more than my feeble mind can take in or assimulate. Yahweh reigns; He is in absolute control and in that fact we all can rejoice. I piddle: I do small jobs for kids and grandkids. Right now I am building shutters for a grandson, but I do not want any major jobs. Trust me, it would stress me out. A few years ago, I would tackle anything including building a house but not any more. Our fellowship hall was a big project; at least it was big to me.  I rejoiced that Charles was in charge. I did not have to make a single decision: all I had to do was what he told me to do. Charles did great on the building but I would be worried if he was running the universe. I would be worried in Trump was running the universe and I like both Charles and Trump. The LORD is on the throne and I am thrilled. He is running the whole shooting match.

I saw a dozen things are more in Psalm 97 but verse 2 really grabbed my attention…Clouds and thick darkness surround Him. God dwells in a dark cloud of mystery. Darkness is not always a symbol of evil; it can also symbolize our inability to see clearly. The pagans made fun of the Jews because their God was invisible. The pagans could see their gods and fully understand them, because they created them. We did not create Yahweh and no one fully understands Him. He is shrouded in mystery. The reforms write good books but they try to resolve all the mysteries and it cannot be done. God’s sovereignty and man’s free will cannot be resolved. There is a divine side and a human side to everything and this includes Jesus. God makes salvation available and man accepts or rejects.

Isaiah 45:15 reads, Truly you are a God who has been hiding Himself, the God and Savior of Israel. John 1:18, No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known. God is hidden from our view; we cannot see Him with the eyes in our head. Paul told the Colossians, The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. In Romans one Paul said, For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made {creation}, so that people are without excuse.

The only way that finite humans can relate to the invisible God, Creator of the universe, is by faith. This is God’s way.  It has always been His way. The ancient Israelites were dogmatic about Yahweh being the only God, and we are dogmatic about Jesus being the only way and faith is the way we relate to Jesus.

I am like the old fellow, with the forgetful memory, who got out in the yard and worked all day. He got his bath went to bed and then woke up next morning so soar he couldn’t move. He called to his wife; when she came into the bed room, he said, “What did I do yesterday?” I had a simular experience except I remember what I did. Thanks to the LORD’s grace and mercy and Joe David and Ty’s help, I got four projects done. I am both sore and tickled.

As for as I know, all the sick folks are about the same. Since it is Spring Break, I have taken off from my normal duties and so I will not be visiting the nursing homes today. LORD willing, I will be at the POINT tonight but no visitation.

Michael Hembree carred me to the Alabama baseball game at Toyato Field last night. They had a sell out and won in the top of the 9th. They play UNA and all total {both teams} there were six players from Morgan County. I didn’t know it, but they play the loud, ungodly, awful, obnoxious rap music at the games. If I ever go back, which is doubtful, I am carrying some ear plugs. I wish someone would pass a law that they couldn’t play music or what they call music, at ball games.

Have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.
