Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
~Psalm 125:1, NIV
Quote
We are built upon the solid Rock, Jesus Christ; as people of faith, we shall not be moved.
~Warren W. Wiersbe
Psalm 125 is very short, only five verses; and when I first read it yesterday morning, I was not moved, due to my lack of understanding. I got out a couple of commentaries and the sparks starting flying. If you have been to Jerusalem, you know that mount Zion is not a majestic mountain. It is more like a rocky hill. Of course many of the walls are still standing which gives it the look of antiquity. We also know that Jerusalem was not impregnable and the Romans completely destroyed much of it in 70 A.D. so how could the Psalmist say it would not be shaken and that it would endure forever. As Warren Wiersbe points out in his commentary, Mount Zion is a huge rock. The city of Jerusalem and the Temple were built on a huge rock. It is a symbol of the ROCK of ages, our LORD Jesus Christ. As Paul said to the Corinthians, “For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Jerusalem was on a solid foundation and so are we.
Peter quoted Isaiah {28} in 1 Peter 2:6, “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he who believes upon Him will not be put to shame.” The hymn Standing On The Rock comes to mind–
I’m standing on the rock of ages,
safe from all the storm that rages,
rich but not from satan wages,
I’m standing on the solid rock.
It is a great Psalm: we are standing on the Rock by faith. Faith keeps us standing, faith keeps us obeying, faith keeps us praying and faith keeps us hoping. We stand by faith [Romans 11:20], we stand in grace [Romans 5:2], we stand on truth [2 Thes. 2:15], we stand on the will of God [Col. 4:12], and we stand in Christ’s strength alone [2 Cor.1:21,24, Eph. 6:13-17]. By the way, there are three kinds of people mentioned in Psalm 125: [1] Those who put their trust in the LORD, [2] Those who aspire to be good; they hunger for righteousness, and [3] Those who live in active rebellion against God. They turn to their own crooked or twisted way. You definitely don’t want to be a member of the last group.

Sorry to post late; I stayed up and watched the ball game and saw the SEC capture another title. It is no doubt in my mind that it should have been Duke and Florida but if it had been, Florida may not have won.
Mike Garnett was promoted yesterday to a far better life beyond the cares and sorrows of this world. Mike was a good guy. I know that because he was good to his mother and good to Willard. I think he was both a brother and a father to Willard. He was good to all his siblings. He was an active member of Lebanon Baptist Church and they will miss him. Our sympathy is for Mike’s family and church family. Mike’s departure was gain for him but loss for his family, friends and church. They are suffering: please pray for the Garnett family.
I think we may have gotten some patchy frost but it didn’t look heavy to me. We have potatoes, cabbage, onions, turnip greens, squash and corn. It will bit the corn and kill the squash which I meant to cover and didn’t. Not a big deal, I have a whole bad of squash seeds.
Have a good day and thanks for reading the blog.
