Scripture

And it shall come to pass,That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.

Christ is the way, the only way; His word is the truth, and His death and resurrection bring life.

~William Franklin Graham

How do you call on someone? You generally call out, ask or cry out. There were three crosses at Calvary. I heard one preacher say: the cross of rejection, the cross of redemption and the cross of repentance. You know that the cross in the middle was the cross of redemption. One thief joined the unbelieving crowd and mocked Jesus, but the other repented. According to Matthew and Mark, both thieves scoffed at Christ in the beginning, but in the course of this six hours of agony, one repented. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Jesus: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us! But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” He called and Jesus answered: it is pretty clear to me.

One of the preachers said last Monday: show me a verse of scripture where anyone prays to recieve Christ. I mentioned Romans 10 but no one was paying attention. I think I was saved the moment I believed but in a sense I cried out to Jesus, it was just a silent prayer. Something very special happed the day Jesus was crucified; one of the criminals was convicted, he repented and he was saved. We have Jesus word on it! The criminal saw his sin and he saw the righteousness of Christ. This is huge. He cried out to Jesus for salvation and Jesus answered compassionately. Hallelujah, what a Savior!
