They Didn’t Understand

Scripture

But they didn’t understand any of this. The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.

Luke 18:34, NLT

If we could put God in our little box of brains, He would not be big enough to worship.

They asks me a question in Sunday School last Sunday that I could not answer. I simply told them, “I don’t have an answer.” I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, but I don’t pretend to understand every thing in the Bible. Matter of fact, there is a great deal of the Bible that I do not understand. I do not despair due to my lack of understanding. Jesus disciples understood very little. As Luke stated: most of the time, they didn’t know what He was talking about. The above is not the only reference to them not understanding [Mark 6:52, 9:32, John 12:16]. There are also multiple reference to others misunderstanding Jesus. But there is hope. Whereas they did not understand at the time Jesus spoke the actual words, they came to understand His meaning later. The coming of the Holy Spirit was the key.

If we will obey what we understand, I believe He will give us greater understanding. Don’t be intimidated by the fact that you don’t have all the answers, no one does. We live by faith, not sight or intellect. No one can ever relate to God on the basis of intellect. Trust Jesus with all your heart and do not lean on your intellect or understanding. Use the knowledge and resources you have and He will give you more in due time. People with all the answers lose all credibility with me. First of all, I know they are being dishonest, and I do not trust dishonest people.

Hats off to Josh for driving me to Memphis. St. Jude has changed since I was there some ten years ago. They have four or five gates and we drove around the block a couple of times looking for the right gate. They only allow visitors to enter one gate. As soon as we got through one of those gates {actually, Josh was still talking to the guard} I saw a woman who could pass for Andrea’s twin; then I noticed a guy beside her who looked exactly like Lincoln, so I rolled my window down and hollowed. It was them. They got in the car with us and we proceeded to the right gate. Lincoln’s surgery went well and he should get back home Thursday or Friday. Lincoln is a brave young man and we all should be proud of him. I thank God that He allowed me to go and visit with Lincoln before his surgery. It will be a cherished memory. Thank the LORD for Josh. He is a good driver.

June visited Joyce who is in Rehab at Moulton. Joyce has been progressing well and we hope to get her back at home and in church soon. It is my understanding that there is a covid outbreak in the facility. Billy Turney is still in Decatur General in ICU.

LORD willing, we will get to work some in the garden today. We have corn and squash that need to be plowed.

I hope you have a good day and thanks for reading the blog.
