The Prophet

Scripture

“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to Him.”

~Deuteronomy 18:15, NLT

There is a deep yearning in the human heart for something better than an earthly king or priest: In Christ we have a King and Priest that can satisfy the deepest longings of the heart.

~Daniel Estes

Human leaders, even the best like Reagan and Trump, are fallible and sooner or later they will do something that is disappointing. As Estes says, we long for that perfect leader and we have it in Christ. Moses was prophet, priest and king. In Deuteronomy, he told the Israelites that God would raise up another prophet like him, only better. This predicted Messiah became known among the Israelites as THE PROPHET. In John 6:14 the scripture reads, “After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, ‘Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.’” Both Peter and Stephen identified Jesus as THE PROPHET promised by Moses in Deuteronomy.

Interestingly Jesus in His first advent, came as a suffering servant, a gentle Lamb that would become the Passover sacrifice [atonement] and He was rejected and scorned by the Jews.  When He returns, He will come as the KING of kings, a roaring Lion who will be feared and followed. Christ will rule the world and in my humble opinion, there will be little resistance. His majesty and authority will be overwhelming. Would you want to take on a full grown lion today? What are the odds of you defeating the lion? The lion’s roar would paralyze us with fear; it would be no contest. I can stand on my feet for one reason, God gives me the strength. He can take that away in a heartbeat. Where will people get their strength to stand against the Son of God who is the giver of life? When they came to arrest him in the garden; He said, “Who do you seek?” They said, “Jesus of nazareth.” Jesus said two words, “I AM” and they fell to the ground. Do you think He has lost His power? I don’t think so. I could be wrong: if He wants war, there will be war, but if He wants surrender, there will be surrender. Every knee will bow.

Cool again this morning. It is wonderful. I didn’t run my air at all in the office yesterday and have my windows up again today. My weather apt is giving a small chance for rain but June’s is giving 50% tomorrow. I hope we get all 50%. Another good Wednesday night crowd: three or four in a row. Drive-In Worship this Sunday at 8:30, a throw-back to the covid year. We actually had services outside for another year. We had four or five families that continued to worship outside. I was preaching twice every Sunday morning and I loved it.

June and I plan to drive up to Anderson, Alabama today and grab a bite at the Fish Creel. They have the best hush puppies in the world. Yes, better than Greenbriar and Catfish Cabin in Athens. June folks are buried near Anderson. June and I banked in Anderson for the first ten years we were married and I got my hair cut there for awhile. About the only thing left is the restuarant.

I hope you have a great Thursday and thanks for reading the blog.
