The Arrogance of Pride

Scripture

“I, the LORD, will punish the world for its evil
and the wicked for their sin.
I will crush the arrogance of the proud
and humble the pride of the mighty.

~Isaiah 13:11, NLT

Quote

Pride is a snake in the grass: before you see it or know that it is present, you feel the sting of it’s bite.

~Ya’akov

If you know anything about livestock, you know that the lifted head means trouble. The raised head is the first sign of rebellion. The arrogant wicked have lifted their head against God. They have contempt for their Creator. Their pride and arrogance gives them the audacity to rebel against the Most High. It is a bit ironic, the proud and arrogant Jews {Pharisees, Scribes, Sadduccees, Herodians} challenged Jesus in public debate. They never won a debate. All the debates ended with Jesus humiliating them but they were gluttons for punishment and they kept coming back asking for more. What on earth would inspire a man to challenge God? The answer is arrogant pride.

Pride has a blinding effect: it keeps us from seeing things as they really are. It especially blinds us to our sin and weakness. The Jews were always accusing Jesus and His disciples of something, but they never make any confessions concerning their sin. I don’t trust anyone who pretends to be perfect and never confesses sin. If they are that dishonest with themselves, they will be dishonest with you and they are not trustworthy. We live in a culture that has by and large raised their head against God: they have rejected God’s Son, His word {Bible}, and His body the Church.

All the indicators of pride are above the shoulders: the tongue, the eyes and the head.

I wrote this blog several days ago. I think before the murder of Charlie Kirk. His skill of public debate reminds me of Jesus. Buddy gave me a new electronic rain gauge; I got it set up and now I need some rain to see if I have it set up right. I poured some water in it and it said we got .75 inches. I would love to have .75.

I decided today that I would help the ladies out that do Children’s church by doing a SEE-SERMON on the first Sunday of the month when we don’t have communion. That means they have to staff only 3 Sundays per month. I hope this helps. There is one thing about it that you may not like: the SEE-SERMONS have to be short; ten to twelve minutes. I know Big Mama will not like it, not!

I hope you have a great day and thanks for reading the blog.

Robert E. Lee Facts…

  • Lee married Mary Anna Randolph Custis, who was the great-granddaughter of Martha Washington, George Washington’s wife.
  • Lincoln seized Lee’s property and made it a cemetery. The Lee family reclaimed the property by a ruling of the Supreme Court but they refused to desecrate the cemetery where there were already hundreds of Yankee soldiers burried. Lee’s son sold it to the Feds for a measely $150,000.
  • Lee did not join the confederacy to retain the right to hold slaves. He believed that slavery was wrong, although he had slaves. He believed that the institution of slavery in America was doing more damage to whites than blacks. He believed that the slaves were better off in America as slaves than they would be back in Africa. By the way, the only attempt to carry slaves back to Africa and set them free failed miserably.
  • Lee’s loyalties were to God first, then family, then Virgina. He believed the sovereignty of the states and so do I and so did Patrick Henry. Lincoln destroyed States rights and that was his intention.
  • The Lee family was highly respected in the day.
  • Lee’s youngest daughter Mildred Childe Lee never married and traveled the world. She discovered that her father’s name was respected all over the world.
  • Robert E. Lee was a Christian and a gentleman which is more than you can say about his opponents {Lincoln, Grant, and Sherman}
